*DISCUSSION* Covid -19 and Toy Industry Affects
Hello everyone, I was hesitant to begin this discussion, but felt it should be addressed. LADL is a community of toy lovers from around the world. Please beware of "click bait" articles and YouTube videos that continue to spread misinformation.
The Covid-19 headlines (and misinformation) have created panic at grocery stores and we are now seeing several retail stores affected. American Girl and Disney Store (brick and mortar) closed temporarily, but remain open for e-commerce.
How will this impact the toy community?
Will YOU be buying toys at this time?
Schools have closed for a minimum 2-week period across the globe.
LADL will continue with regular post roll outs, as long as the internet is alive. What would you like to see from LADL? With an international audience in 47 countries, we want to HEAR FROM YOU!

*NEWS* American Girl Appoints New GM
Prior to the job at AG, she was Chief Marketing Officer for Iconic Brand portfolio of fashion and lifestyle brands.
2015-2016
General Manager at Madame Alexander dolls successfully led the
turnaround effort to reclaim the doll brand’s premium position, cultural
relevance, and profitability.
General
Manager at HIT Entertainment where she led Thomas & Friends to the
status as the #1 pre-school brand through content-led tentpole programs,
retail expansion and experiential partnerships. In broadcast programming
and motion pictures, a tent-pole or tentpole is a program or movie that
supports the financial performance of a movie studio or television
network. A tent-pole movie may be expected to support the sale of tie-in
merchandise.

She
has prior experience at Mattel, and doll experience. I am interested to
see where she takes American Girl. I’m hoping that she can turn the
historical line around. Wonder what she’ll get rid of, what will be
changed, what will remain the same, will they still sell dolls in Costco
at Christmas, will they pull all dolls from Kohl’s (our store doesn’t
even have an AG banner, the toys are just placed there, not neat and
some dolls look like they have been there for a while.)
There
is another article announcing the new SVP/GM. This article didn’t have
as much of her background, but I did find this information interesting.
“She succeeds Katy Dickson, who headed American Girl from early 2016
until the end of 2018.” I wasn’t aware that she left AG, and wonder who
has been running AG during 2019.

*NEWS* Changes to AG Doll Body
Everyone (including me) is shaking their head about this decision. Diana brings up a very good point: AG has been using the Gotz patented doll body for years. It's possible they are not renewing the patent, but adding SEWN ON UNDERWEAR as a new feature. Don't forget, gone are the neck strings. Gabriela GOTY17 has zip ties.
Here's a look at Gotz doll Elizabeth Cady Stanton as compared to classic AG Caroline. The flesh tone is darker, but the bodies are the same.
You can see more comparisons with Elizabeth (Candace) and Marie Grace (Paige).
