American Girl Courtney Moore 1986 - (Book 1) Changes the Game and (Book 2) Friendship Superhero

Courtney is the best gamer at the arcade. But she can’t understand why there aren’t more girl characters in the games she plays. When a school project allows her to create her own video game, the hero is a girl who knows how to handle any situation—something Courtney struggles with in real life. Whether it’s learning to share a room with her stepsister or supporting her mom when she announces she’s running for mayor, Courtney’s blended family has to learn to work together differently. It’s a whole new game for Courtney, and she’s figuring out the rules as she goes. Includes full-color illustrations and a historical “looking back” section. 120 pages. Paperback. Author: Kellen Hertz.

Courtney Moore, an avid gamer growing up with her blended family in the fictional town of Orange Valley, CA. When given a chance to create her own video game, Courtney looks to real-life heroes—like her mom, who’s running for mayor, as well as the astronauts on the Space Shuttle Challenger—as inspiration to invent a female superhero who’s bold, brave, and gives Courtney the courage to speak up for the people and ideas she believes in.

Courtney’s story is also being told via a 25-minute film short on Youtube Kids called, “Meet Courtney: An American Girl Movie.”

Barbie Millicent Roberts, An Original Book

The early and rare Barbie--in 75 ravishing photographs. Barbie as she was meant to be seen and celebrated, clothed in Mattel's now rare ensembles inspired by the original designs of the great couturiers--Chanel, Givenchy, Dior, Balenciaga--and brilliantly photographed by David Levinthal, the foremost toy photographer at work today.

The incomparable Barbie--Barbie Millicent Roberts--was born in 1959 in the heyday of haute couture. But Barbie has always been at the center of style. No woman alive has kept up with the latest fashion of the day as Barbie has, with the perfect ensemble for every occasion: a night at the ballet, her first date, a festive barbecue, an afternoon at the beach, a day at the office, a Saturday matinee, her wedding day. And each has been perfectly accessorized: shoes, pocketbooks, long gloves, a fur stole, sunglasses, a beach bag, a single strand of pearls.

No other book about Barbie shows her as she is seen here, in breathtaking image after image--her hair, her accessories, her clothes, styled to perfection. The essential Barbie, as she was meant to look to the millions who have seen in her the embodiment of their dream of beauty and glamour, has been brilliantly captured by David Levinthal, whose photographs have been exhibited and admired around the world.

With a preface by Valerie Steele.

Thank you Fawn for gifting this book to me. I love it!

Standards of Learning: Trade and Commerce

The Columbian Exchange was a vital stepping stone in history to introduce exotic fruits, vegetables, goods, services and animals to remote places.

Without the Columbian exchange foods like bananas and oranges may have never been introduced to American kitchens.

High Hopes for Addy - Kite Craft

This craft is found in the book High Hopes for Addy

Standards of Learning-Economy/Goods & Services

1. Many people rely on goods and services in society. A kite is an example of supply and demand. Once people began flying kites in national parks then demand for them grew.
2. Economy relied on businesses to produce supplies

Ex. Wood was needed to make kites and other children toys.
