*NEWS* Josefina MISSING from BEFOREVER Catalogue (Canada)

Canadian BEFOREVER Catalog

A friend of mine who lives in Canada received her BF catalog and Josefina is MISSING from both the COVER and inside. You will see the Canadian flag on the upper left corner of her catalog.

Canadian BEFOREVER Catalog

You can see Josefina is MISSING from the catalog cover and is not featured inside either!

This reignites sparks to the *RUMORS* of an impending archival for Josefina along with other *rumors* that Josefina will get a few "new" items in the Spring 2015. That alone doesn't debunk any archival rumors because Molly had a yellow Jenny Lind bed and a pair of floral Pajamas added to her collection months prior to her Archival announcement.

INDIGO stores currently have Julie, Rebecca, Samantha and Addy on their website - Kit, Josefina, Caroline and Kaya are excluded. That debunks rumors that Josefina is not inside/on the catalog because she is not "available" in Canada (due to website exclusion). If this were the main clue, that would mean the same for Caroline, Kaya and Kit. We KNOW Caroline, Kaya and Kit are part of the BEFOREVER line up.

My friend tried unsuccessfully to order Josefina and some of her collection online. Here is what she said:

"The historical dolls where never available in the Canadian stores, only the MyAG, but I can still order the historical dolls online....So today I pretended to buy Josefina, but both she and all of her collection are not available to Canadians!!!!! Every other doll is available!!!! So I'm guessing they didn't include her in the Canadian catalog because we can't buy her at all!"

I would love to hear thoughts from other Canadian collectors about this very subject: JOSEFINA.

  1. Josephina hasn't shipped to Canada since they made the Canadian version of the AG website. The same is true for the Bitty Twins and all of their collection as well as a few other items from the MYAG line. I hope they don't retire Josephina soon so that I have the chance to go the US and get her sometime.

  2. If I remember correctly, Josephina has never been available to us Canadians, for some reason (packaging labeling was my guess - it has to be translated into both French and English on the outside of the box). I never ordered an AG doll here in Canada, so I don't know how the packaging is confrom to Canadian regulations for everything else AG, but I wonder why most dolls are available and not Josephina. Maybe they were thinking about archiving her and thus never bothered about translating the labels on her boxes? It's too bad 'cause I really love Josephina and she is one of the dolls I'd like to own.

  3. I don't think Josefina ever shipped to Canada, so that's why she's not there. I still think I'm going to get her maybe after Christmas but before I buy Rebecca. Unrelated, but still a comment...
It is SOO obvious they edited that catalog cover!!! It just looks like they perfectly cut her out.

    1. Oh man, I just realized... Remember all the protests after our 1 asain american and 2nd african american were retired? (Ivy/Cecile) That was chaos. If AG retires Josefina.... It's going to be pandemonium on the streets. (ok, maybe I'm over exaggerating, but still there are some DEVOTED fans out there.)

    2. It looks to me like she was edited INTO the US the catalog. I think the Canadian version looks unedited!

  4. I noticed that Josefina's new BeForever outfit had very little change: the skirt pattern is new and the wrap belt is a different color, but everything else stayed the same -- including her accessories I wonder if this is another indication of her impending archival. The way Kit, Rebecca, Addy, etc. got entirely new outfits, I think that's a clear sign they're going to be around for a while. Were there any changes to Caroline's meet outfit? I have the pre BF Caroline, so don't know, but I don't think she's going anywhere either. I'm sad to see signs of Josefina's potential archival, and hope they are planning for another eventual Hispanic character in the historical lineup.

    1. That would make total sense, why work hard to change something on a doll if you're going to archive her later? Or, it could just mean that's as historically authentic as her meet outfit can get. Caroline's outfit didn't change, but I just think that's because she's only been out for 3 years, so she's pretty recent.

  5. That cover is so weird! She was completely Photo Shopped out! Really strange why she was never available in Canada. Wonder if her name or something else about her infringes on a trademark there. I know before Mattel changed Kelly's name to Chelsea they had to call her Shelly in Europe because of trademark issues. That's why they eventually changed her name to Chelsea because there were no conflicts globally with that name.

  6. I don't like this. I don't like this at all. Are there not Hispanics in Canada? I would really like for American Girl to address this and to address this pronto. There is no reason for one of the historical dolls not to be available to the Canadians.

  7. Hi. I am a collector from Canada. Josephina used to be available to Canadians, along with the bitty twins and most of the AG collection, aside from very large items like Kit's tree house. All the dress like tour doll clothes could be shipped as well. We used to have the exact same catalogue as people in the U.S. Back in 2010, AG started to market directly to Canadians with our own catalogue and website. When that happened, we were no longer able to order a large amount of AG dolls, clothes and accessories. It was very disappointing because we had no warning and suddenly a lot of products were unavailable to us. We couldn't buy Addy or Josephina, the Bitty Twins or many of the accessories for the historical dolls. We have very different regulations concerning labeling and packaging, as well as content. All labeling for example must have both official languages: French and English. Things are getting much better though. AG adapted their packaging to include a pretty sleeve hat goes over the US packaging that conforms to Canadian regulations for the MY AG things for our new stores and all the newer releases we can now get online or in store. With the beforever release we can get Addy and her new items (Yay!) They never display the things we can't order in the catalogue, thus is why no Josephina. I wouldn't worry too much about the historical dolls in our stores. They didn't originally plan on including them but due to popular demand we can finally shop for four of them. Our AG stores are very small. We have a very limited selection of items. It is more a sampling of what is available. AG has gradually been increasing what can be ordered in Canada, I was shocked and very happy that we can order Sam ' s ice cream parlor and get dress like your doll clothes. Josephina and bitty baby can't be far behind!

  8. Sorry for spelling errors! I'm typing on my phone on a couch that has two very energetic girls rolling around on it. Schools here are out on strike.
