Thank you for sharing. She is a beautiful doll. Seems like the fad is big eyes, wonder if that played a role in the choice. Not sure if it is the angle of the picture, but when looking at her face, the eye on the left looks like the eye opening, bottom near the nose (as the opening comes down from the inside corner, going downward) cuts into the pupil more than the right eye opening. To me the openings don't seem symmetrical. Not sure that I care for the painting, but just one person's opinion. She is beautiful. Congrats!
She is very pretty! Congrats I was offered a chance to get her early, but I am not sure I will add her. She does look different from AG dolls and I would love to see more items in the overall Beforever dolls'collection. Melody could use some extra items so my concern is that AG has these incentives to buy new historical dolls but then the line fades to black and then early retirement to the archives. I do love Nanea pj's and hula outfit but I am not used to her face mold yet. She seems more Moana from Disney than AG. I do love her meet outfit and coloring. My hope is that they have a lot of accessories for her line and will continue adding more as time passes.
Why did they even bother releasing Felicity? What is with Maryellen, most of the girl clothes are on the sale/clearance page. Even some of Melody's items were at the Benefit sale. I was anticipating Samantha being retired. Addy's collection was slimmed down. Wonder what is going on? I was just at Kohl's today and had to pass by the toy department. All the had were a few of Tenney's items and WW dolls and a few of their accessories. Some of the WW were in the old boxes.
I wish they had done a full release with Felicity with new clothes, accessories, and furniture. There is so much more they should do with Maryellen and Melody. Lots of lost revenue I would think. Madelon
I ordered my Nanea. I LOVE getting her early. She's on her via the mail. I love her face. I'm trying to remember if I saw any native Hawaiians other than a co-worker when I visited. That was 12 years ago & as a guy I didn't notice his eyes. I am already in love with her face & coloring. Thanks for sharing Madelon.
Rhonda you've been on my heart for some time now. I hope you don't mind me praying for you. Take care of yourself. I consider you a friend I need to visit soon! Hope you have a,great weekend.
She is cute but does not look like an american girl doll, if I were them I wouldn't change an iconic look. Marie Grace did not do that well even with her beautiful mold.
I was hurt with how her release was handled. I am most angry with my Store especially. I was there Sunday, saw a former Personal Shopper working the Floor, got rang up by a Manger, and less then 48 later the Doll is released and not just online but in the Store too, so they had to know this would occur not even 48 hours later. Why not have a early release hour/reception for your local awards Members that qualifying and invite us. We would love to have been at the store on her early release, we are Berry Members and have been since The beginning and have never had a month we did not get a reward since it started. How can you be a better customer? I feel sometimes the staff can really be the (opposite)of appreciate of their customers. Anyway, I never like this Doll, but Instagram Photos made me love her!!! Maybe, we will add her, not sure. But,with me being upset at my Store staff, there is now no rush to ever buy her, if we do buy her at this point it will be our Traditional August 27th Doll purchase date, that we have been blessed to keep up for 5 great years, a few days after goes back to school, My Hubby and I go get Baby a New release. I am so hurt and disappointed that we do plan to make this our last year of regular Shopping with American Girl monthly. We have more then enough,we most likely will go once a Year from here on for what ever my Daughter can afford to get with her Birthday money, but it will no longer be once month place to spend money monthly. They just don't appreciate their Customers enough.
Employees can be fired for releasing information early. I understand your disappointment, but gold and berry members were offered an early release as it was.
I have sensed for some time that AG is going in a new direction due to Mattel and a change in trends. I loved buying historical dolls for most of my childhood into adulthood due to the books, cooking materials, crafts and book illustrations with clothing to match their dolls characters in each story. Now that has changed. I looked for this with Nanea but only got as far as the cover illustration to make the connection to wanting the doll and her accessories. I like that AG has released Nanea and that she is a WW II doll. But AG needs to try to focus on what fans want to see and know especially if they are valued customers. I bought Melody and I am truly disappointed in the lack of connection I have with her overall collection. The books offet so much but the accessories are lacking and I would love to see more clothing options. I did not want to take the same chance this summer with Nanea until I see more. Hopefully come late August they will have more great things for historicals and for fans who invest in these kinds of collections. I too would love to see more clothing for Felicity and Samantha too. Why bring them out of archives just to offer little bits and pieces of what could be a great product line?
No. We were told that she wouldn't when the perma-panties news first broke. Mattel has also offered a one time free body swap for dolls with the perma-panties.
Thanks for posting photos of her. I live in Canada so am quite bereft as it is, unless I drive to Seattle. lol So all these new dolls and new items are probably out of my price range. She certainly has a very unusual face. I think I'd have to see her in person first. I love the historical dolls. I'm still happy we have an AG boutique here in Vancouver BC and I visit it once a month, but the last time I was there no one was in it but myself!
Thank you for sharing, Madelon! She's gorgeous! Very interesting to have the eye notches painted and not sculpted. Honestly, when you look at her she looks lively and fresh and flawless and very Polynesian which is perfect for a Hawaiian themed doll. She reminds me of the little girl at the beach shack in the movie Blue Hawaii. ~Xyra
Your princess comment made it clear, her eyes are not to scale the holes are too big should have been slightly smaller with a true notch. She definitely looks different close up.
Omg she looks SO MUCH LIKE Moana! If I weren't saving up for the Create your Own doll I'd want to buy her just so I could dress her up in Moana outfits...Maybe someday I can justify buying her as a replacement for the My Life As doll currently playing Ella for my Grace collection. (If she doesn't retire first--the Beforever line in general looks a bit shaky.)
Madelon, it looks like you got a really pretty Nanea, probably the prettiest one I've seen!
ReplyDeleteI love a lot about Nanea. I think her coloring and outfit are great. I really like her nose. The big eyes are taking some getting used to.
Thank you! I agree. The way her eyes are painted is quite different than the usual AG doll. Madelon

DeleteShe does look like Moana but that sure isn't a bad thing in my book! I love Disney and Moana is one of my favorite movies!

ReplyDeleteDon't blame the staff, blame MATTEL

ReplyDeleteI can see that in her. Madelon
Deletedoes she have the sewn on panties?
ReplyDeleteNo.They are longish underwear. Madelon

ReplyDeleteI hope that she is available in Canada. When it is not summertime and I go to AGDC on a week day, I have not found it to be crowded, either. Madelon
