Very cute doll! I have always wanted doll 56 due to her being just so cute their is really no other way to put it. Then I thought, well maybe later and then I just settled for seeing her in catalogs. I just love her hair and freckles. Once my husband finds a unique enough looking Gabby I can complete my collection with 62 and Tenney who is a good mixture of Caroline and TM 24 and 56. However I cannot get over how cute doll 56 is all on her own and how your family found one with a beautiful wig. That is something AG is working hard on I hope to maintain the hair quality enough to make up for their past debacle of the permapanties and nonclothlike torso. Seeing your new doll gives me hope that AG can still continue to make beautiful dolls.
What does your husband have to be on the lookout for regarding a unique Gabby doll? I'm curious about the criteria!! And once you get her, will you customize either her or your TM46 at all? I always thought Gabby would look good with a small sprinkling of freckles just under one eye. Kind of like WW Ashlyn doll, but just one eye.
My husband made a trip with me for the holidays to shop for presents for me and our kids. He was better at noticing little quirks about the dolls and accessories than I was. I was really impressed with his ability to notice small details even when it comes to choosing the right doll he was great! Now I ask him about little things when we go and he is usually right on the money. So because of his attention to detail he promises that he has the ability to find a unique looking Gabby. He knows what doll 46 looks like and he says that the eyes on some Gabby dolls look different and so does their wig. He knows how upset I was and feels that this should not be the reason to avoid buying Gabby or any other AG doll ever again. I told him if he wants to take on this challenge fine, but I am not convinced that I should get a Gabby because of what AG did. If my husband wants to buy her fine, buy her. But for me I am still a little upset and wish him luck in finding one he thinks will look different from TM 46.
Not going to customize Gabby if she is purchased. I am just going to add her to my collection as a GOTY. I am really trying to keep hope alive here and try to like her as a doll and overlook what AG did. They know they are wrong! In another post I ranted about the importance of doll diversity and how it is important to support all dolls especially dolls that are underrepresented. Politically I want to support her but I also want AG to know that if they can spend money making new dolls, then they should have done that for the first black GOTY. BUT they just took an older TM and we'll there you have it! My husband loves that I have invested time in collecting and have inspired our kids to love and take care of their dolls, he does not want to see that change over this issue which I can respect. So yes, as a mother, consumer and black fan of AG I am conflicted and hurt over this issue. Black dolls need to be supported and made just like all dolls should. Once the choice is gone it becomes the new norm. I will always choose diversity. There is enough room on the shelf for all dolls new and old as long as people keep buying them.
Just from seeing the pictures of AGP Gabriela dolls when she debuted it looked like there was a lot of variation among the dolls. I hope he finds just the right one for you!!
I don't know what AG was thinking by not introducing a new doll for the first black GOTY. They are capable of much more. I thought AG did a great job with Addy, Cecile and Melody. The dolls were beautiful and I loved their characters and stories. Hopefully AG will have some nice surprises in store for Gabriela.
If you have not already, I would encourage you to get the meet outfit love to layer accessories. With new meet outfits coming soon, the love to layer pieces will be gone and since they come with a skirt, vest and hair accessories I found it to be a treat to have for the new dolls. AG is constantly cutting back and I like that they do currently offer items that still have plenty of pieces that are worth holding on to. And with doll 56 gorgeous wig, it will save you a trip to the hair salon or Claire's for more hair clips.
I want his doll ,but I have not had an opportunity to get to the store. I also thought she would have permapanties. So I am glad to see that you got a good one. Maybe some day she will be in my collection.
She's a cutie!! Out of the TM dolls, she's probably a favorite. I like the wavy midlength hair she has. You got a really really pretty one! And yay for a normal body :) Happy dancing for you. What a wonderful gift!!
A very cute doll! I bet she looks adorable in ponytails on each side of her head!
ReplyDeleteI still really want this doll even though I already have Lindsey, which is the exact same doll with just a different hair color and bangs.
