I did the hot water
treatment on Pleasant Company GT 9 doll. I boiled hot water in a
kettle. Poured it in a bowl or dish. I slowly dipped GT9 curled roller
set hair in the water. Each time making sure that each section was
receiving hot water on each strand of curled hair. Then I dipped my
wire brush into the hot water, wire teeth first and brushed her bangs
making sure to get it completely saturated with the hot water.
I laid her on a chair to drip dry putting a towel down underneath to catch dripping water runoff.
After
her hair was completely dry, I kept the curlers in for two days.
After
the two days I unraveled the curlers and what a difference! Nice shiny
curls to go with her Easter best.
Materials: Foam rollers, wire brush, hot water...parent supervision if needed, 1 bowl and towel.
Note:
I was careful trying not to get the top of the wig wet, but as long as
you are not putting the doll head first under a running faucet, a little
water will not hurt. Avoid getting water in eyes at all costs.
Hope this helps. It has really improved the quality of my GT9 doll since she is rather old.

Beautiful curls!!!
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI do this often to my dolls even took the add on braids and curled them to add small curls to caroline on each side of her face like woman in 1774
ReplyDeleteThat sounds really nice. I will need to try that with Caroline.
DeleteBeautiful! Madelon
ReplyDeleteThank you. I love these old dolls and I am still working on getting all of them in a picture soon.
DeleteI've tried the hot water treatment, but perhaps I haven't let the water get hot enough--I've been leery of it getting too hot. I don't want to curl my GT20's hair (original issue, so she's old, too), but I do wish I could get it nice and shiny again. It's not terribly dull, or very dry since I've treated it before, but it could be better. Perhaps a simple soak would do? -- Jen
ReplyDeleteI tried this with my white body and Kirsten, but it was not was successful without the curlers. I am not sure why the curlers work best with the hot water, but you may want to try sheen spray. I use it on Kirsten every now and then.
DeleteHer hair looks gorgeous!!!! Sharon
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon.
DeleteThank you for this wealth of information. Excited to try it out.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you will love it too. It saved me having to replace her head which held many childhood memories of Pleasant Company and me.
DeleteOh my goodness! Wow, that's gorgeous! I HAVE to try that on my Samantha, since she's pretty old too! :)

Thank you. I think your Samantha would look amazing with curls. I feel like older Samantha dolls hair was made for curls.
DeleteShe looks stunning! The shine in her curls is obvious, the curls and style came out perfectly. Love!
ReplyDeleteThank you Belle. I am so happy not to have to replace her head with a new one. I was willing to try and take the plunge literally.
DeleteThank you so much sharing. Her hair is beautiful. The apron from Williams-Sonoma is so cute.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Her hair is even softer after the treatment. I strongly recommend this to dolls that have dry hair.
