Since we all know that
Gabby is TM 46 with them Sonali face mold, I wanted to focus on doll
face molds and subtle differences I have noticed.
Addy has one face mold, but lately my dolls with Addy face molds look different from one another.
TM
31 and MyAG 50 look different, but same face molds. MyAG eyes look
bigger and seem to face you straight on. TM31 her eyes seem smaller and
look down turned. Noses look different too and the vinyl on My AG 50
catches more of these light in the room on her face than TM 31. They
are the same in color, but 50 seems to glow. Pleasant Company JLY 18 has
an Addy face mold, but looks different than the other two. Darker vinyl
and features in the face are more defined.
This
makes me feel 100% confident that Gabby may have slight variations in
her face mold as well that may be different from most TM46. Hope this
helps.

I feel you are right!!! So GOTY2017 Gabriela might really have more significant changes. Lover to see her second run once the run out of all the 46's they had on hand.
ReplyDeleteI would guess that small differences like these are more likely to be batch differences than intentional. Like when the mould they use to cast the head from has been used a lot of times versus freshly made, and small differences when they make each mould from the master. Maybe things like small differences in temperature also affect the definition of the features of the face - not enough to fail quality control but just slightly. This is not a bad thing though, as it does mean that supposedly identical dolls are a bit more individual.
ReplyDeleteI think that is the best part of buying and choosing a doll. It's special and unique to you.
DeleteI have already started to spot a few Gabby dolls who's eyes look like they have been raised due to the variations of their painted on eyebrows. I noticed differences over the years with Samantha. At the time people could not see the differences, but with technology over the years of Internet and YouTube it is easy to see other Samantha dolls sold and compare. This could be the case with TM 46 and future Gabby dolls coming out as soon as this summer or when they run out. Same idea with the new Felicity. Very different from the original.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. I had never noticed how different the "same" doll can look until recently! Vinyl batch color, face paint and wig placement can really change the appearance of a doll. I remember seeing a comparison of two Melody dolls, and one had a slight tilt to its head while the other looked straight on. It was so interesting the difference! One looked much sweeter than the other.
DeleteTo me, it looks like your MAG50 wig placement gives her a more oval shaped face, and her eyes pop! Whereas on your TM31 the wig is farther back and her forehead it more pronounced making her eyes seem smaller and her cheeks are prominent. And your JLY18 has bags and no forehead visible, no one feature stands out, I just notice a beautiful face!
What a fun review!
You are probably right. I love seeing how different one doll can look from another. It makes doll buying and collecting uniquely different from any other forms of collecting and more fun.
DeleteYou have lovely dolls. Madelon
