I am not going to re-create this, but here are some ideas on how to make your own bakery restaurant for Grace and your dolls. The La Patisserie is a BIG ticket item at $500. I'm sure you can make one using a cardboard box for less than $50. Paper the inside and cover the exterior with red poster board. Cut out windows and paper the floor in scrapbook paper.
You will need to make an oven and sink combo. I have a tutorial for both appliances, but they can easily be combined into one furniture piece using the same box. Use silver scrapbook paper to cover the stainless steel oven, red craft foam sheets for under the sink storage and a black craft foam sheet for your counter top.
Rolling pins - Hobby Lobby
You can make your own pastry case using a wooden jewelry box from any craft store. I made a sweet treats display case using a box.
Begin filling the case with treats:
You could also use the My Life As.... Snack Cart.
Madame Alexander has What A Doll baking sets (Kmart).
Look for baking sets on eBay. Our Generation has a kitchen baking set. My Life As.... has baking kits. I saw several on clearance at Wal-Mart for $20.
Love is in the details so be sure to add these items to your bakery: hot pad, wall clock, menus written on black paper, wall hooks over the oven and wooden display wall shelf from any craft store.
You can use night lights as wall sconces.
I look forward to hearing back from those of you who have made your own DIY La Patisserie! Please email photos to share and brag about your masterpiece!!
I am going to start making this today. AG doll play just made a post about their version.

Wow! Thank you for these ideas! I never realized how easy it would be to make my own. :)
ReplyDeleteDo you have any other places I could get mini rolling pins like that? I haven't seen a Hobby Lobby here before. :(

You can make one w a wooden dowel then hot glue wood beads on each end. Otherwise ebay may have some.
DeleteThank you!

DeleteWell poo, I missed those rolling pins on my trip to Hobby Lobby. Do you remember what section they were in? Looks like I'll have to go back. ;)
ReplyDeleteThey are down the wood aisle with the dowels.
DeleteThanks! There is just so much to look at in HL, I get overwhelmed sometimes.
DeleteI seriously want to combine the OG Retro Diner, the AG retired Baking Table and Accessories and the pink and gray OG kitchen into one large restaurant/pastry shop/bakery. But for me, the must-have from the new AG La Patisserie is to recreate those fabulous doors! And I might get that stand mixer set to round it all out.
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas Rhonda! Honestly I cannot bring myself to pay the money for AG food and the related accessories when there are so many more affordable options out there! I also wish that they sold some of the items that come with the bakery in separate sets. It would give people options who don't have space for the entire bakery to buy only the pieces that they want like the display case or the stove. Oh well! Thanks for all the wonderful tips on how to recreate these items ourselves!
ReplyDeleteI found your post while looking up options for doll baked goods. My daughters and I just put together this DIY bakery for Grace & her friends. :) I thought I'd share it in case your readers would like some additional ideas for things to put inside: http://www.goodinthesimple.com/diy-american-girl-project-graces-bakery/
ReplyDeleteHere is a look at our DIY Grace's Bakery. I had quite the time trying to keep it a surprise for Christmas. Somehow I managed it though, and it was a hit! Even with the adults. :)

I've seen many DIY Patisseries out there. My own policy when DIYing is: Be as faithful to the original as possible. I am not going to make a full size Patisserie as I have nowhere to put it, but I may make a mini version. However, I don't have mini Grace. It's frustrating when I want to recreate cool GOTY outfits and items in mini scale but the only minis I have are Maryellen, Lea, Josefina, and Addy. I could buy a Grace mini, I suppose. Then Addy could be Ella and Maryellen could be Maddy!
