This was a requested tutorial.
I don't know how to french braid. For those of you who don't know how either - this is how I did Addy's BF meet hairstyle on my PC Addy.
Step One: Part hair in the middle, braid each side, smoothing hair best as possible from Addy's face.
Step Two: Curl (loop) the ends of each braid in an elastic hair tie (tuck in).
Step Three: Tie a single knot with black ribbon.
Step Four: Draw one of the loose braids up to the top (opposite) where the braid begins at Addy's temple. Tuck one end (lace) of the ribbon through the front of the braid, secure it by tying the ribbon in a bow around the looped end, tucking it in behind the braid.
Step Five: Do the same on the other side, adjusting the two braids in back closing any gaps.
Step Six: (Optional) Finish off the look with Addy's braided headband from her hairstyling set, tucking it behind the front of her braids.
Addy's Meet 1/4" wide black satin ribbons are 12" long. Mine are a little longer and need trimming.
GORGEOUS!
I just realized, isn't this Marie grace's hairstyle, just without her hair hanging down? I mean, I can see why, 1853 and 1864 are really close. I think that's why Addy got the crinoline and chemise, but I don't understand Samantha with the parasol (unless parasols were just popular from the late 1800's all the way to the early 1900's) or Caroline with the table. Just my thoughts. I'm SO GLAD they didn't fully retire the lacy parasol, I am so getting that ASAP.
ReplyDeleteYes it is the same technique as Marie Grace's hair only doing it with the entire head if hair.
DeleteIf you don't know how to french braid (or cornrow as Addy's mother would have called it), you can fake it doing 2 top braids on either side of her part and braid them into 2 bottom braids, and then wrap the braids around as shown by Rhonda.
ReplyDeleteOh! I'm going to try that!!!
DeleteThanks for responding to my request! What I still don't get though is how you were able to part Addy's hair in the back without leaving a big gap/exposing her scalp (at least it doesn't seem that you have this issue from your pics). This was my problem when I was trying to braid my pre BF Addy's hair. How did you manage that? Is there something wrong with my doll's wig?
ReplyDeleteWithout seeing her it's difficult to say. My PC Addy has FULL hair so there wasn't any covering up in back needed. If you want to email a few photos of her hair I can look at it for you.
DeleteWill you do more of these tutorials
ReplyDeleteI can try, though I'm not that good with doll hair styles. You can go here for inspiration:

Thanks for the tutorial! I was able to create Josefina's birthday hairstyle this way, just braid in a red ribbon to each braid, then use bobby pins to secure braids instead of ribbon bows. I've even tried this style on my own hair! (Minus all the ribbons.)
ReplyDeleteYou can make a French braid by pulling the sections under-under-under instead of over-over-over the way you do in ordinary braiding. I don't know how to make it high on the head though.

Great tip, thank you!!
