American Girl Addy's Scenes and Settings Review

Pleasant Company made five scenes and settings photo back drop books. Each foam board display book measures 23.5" x 29.5" and opens to 58" flat. Snaps with clear strap at side close on top to close and carry. Each sold $48.

American Girl Addy Birthday Outfit Retired Review

Addy's mother sews her a beautiful birthday dress. Snood has a special feature which was most likely sewn by Mama in story plot.

This outfit is perfect for the Civil War Period and ties in with the dresses seen in movies like Little Women.

Braids were popular so I braided Addy's hair and pinned it on top of her head with Bobby pins. 

I added holiday ribbon to her hairdo since it is featured in Addy's story that Mama takes extra ribbon to tie to the braids of Addy's hair.

Since Mama works in a dress shop it is clear that she has her pick of fancy ribbon used on rich clients in neighborhoods such as Society Hill.

Outfit came with a cream and brown jumper or pinafore with a cream shirt adorned with copper threaded rickrack. A trio of non working copper colored bottons in front and velcro in back. 

Outfit also came with a brown snood hair accessory made popular during Mary Lincoln's time in the white house. The snood has two faux yellow feathers as a reminder of the bird Sunny and freedom.

Mattel and Beforever Addy dolls have thicker hair but snood can still fit over braids comfortably.

Socks are included that are also cream and threaded nicely.

AG Look for Less - American Girl Addy's Bedroom

 

Addy's bedroom was created on shelving units from Home Depot.  They are also at Walmart.  There are five shelves to each unit, but I only use four to allow the dolls room to stand.  Addy's bedroom is 24x48 and approximately 24 inches tall.  We had some sheet rock available so we cut it for the walls.  Hobby Lobby has scrapbook paper 4 for $1.00 if the paper's price is originally 69 cents or under.  The brown paper was full priced at 79 cents a sheet.  I bought 8 sheets of the brown and 8 sheets of the flowered paper.  At Lowe's I bought the trim for about $2.67.  

 

I painted the trim with left over paint that I had on hand.  I attached the scrapbook paper to the sheet rock with Elmer's Multi-Purpose Spray Adhesive then sprayed the back of the trim and attached it to the scrapbook paper.

The bed is American Girl Addy's bed and bedding.  The pictures were thrifty find $1 each.  The dresser was $6 thrifty find and the shelf was $2, the rug was 49 cents.  The chair was $16 at an antique store.  The quilt was a thrifty find $1.  The dining room table and chairs were $5 thrifty find.  They are Batatt (Our Generation brand).  The two room dividers were thrifty finds about $12.  The tea set is one I had when my daughter was little.  I made the biscuits from air dry clay.

Ingredients

Crust

• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 3/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into 1⁄2-inch cubes
• 1/4 cup cold vegetable shortening
• 4-5 tablespoons ice water

Filling

• 3 pounds fresh Bing cherries, pitted and halved
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 1/4 cup cornstarch
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1/8 teaspoon salt

Additional Ingredients

• 1 large egg yolk
• 2 teaspoons water
• 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar

How to Make It

Prepare the Crust: Place flour, sugar, and salt in bowl of a food processor; pulse until combined, 3 to 4 times. Add butter and shortening; pulse until mixture resembles small pebbles, 4 to 5 times. Sprinkle 4 tablespoons of the water over top, and pulse until mixture becomes a shaggy mass, adding additional water, 1 teaspoon at a time, as necessary.

Transfer mixture to a lightly floured surface, and knead until mixture comes together, 3 to 4 times. Divide into 2 pieces (making two-thirds of the dough the first piece and the remaining one-third of dough the second piece). Shape each piece into a disk. Cover each with plastic wrap, and chill 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 400°F. Prepare the bottom Crust: Roll larger disk of dough on a lightly floured work surface into a 12-inch circle, and place into a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate. Fold edge of dough under rim of pie plate. Chill until ready to use.

Prepare the Filling: Combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla, and salt in a large bowl, stirring well. Transfer mixture to prepared 

Crust

Prepare the top Crust: On a sheet of lightly floured parchment paper, roll remaining disk of dough into a 10-inch circle. Use a paring knife to cut 2 (1-inch-wide) strips from the bottom one-third of the dough, leaving a semicircle of dough on top. Use a 3⁄4-inch star-shaped cutter to cut out stars from the left half of the dough semicircle. Use a paring knife to cut out and remove 3 (1-inch-wide) strips of dough from the right half. Use the parchment to carefully transport and place the prepared semicircle on top of Filling. Place the 2 (1-inch-wide) strips across the uncovered Filling at the bottom of the pie to complete the flag design. Crimp the dough edges.

Whisk together egg yolk and water. Brush entire piecrust with egg mixture. Sprinkle with turbinado sugar. Place pie on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.

Bake in preheated oven on lower oven rack 20 minutes. Leaving pie in oven, reduce oven temperature to 350°F, and bake 55 to 60 minutes, until Crust is golden and Filling is bubbly throughout, shielding pie with aluminum foil to prevent overbrowning after 20 to 30 minutes, if needed. Transfer pie from baking sheet to a wire rack, and cool at least 2 hours before serving.
