(#19, #35, #52, #54)
Four Truly Me boy dolls will launch Dec. 26
I have seen them and while I can't post a photo here, I will describe them. They are dressed in navy blue/light blue striped polo shirts, light jeans and sneakers.
Blond - classic face mold
Brunette - Ivy face mold
African American - Sonali face mold
African American - Addy face mold
Too bad #35 is retiring :( I’ve always wanted her... But that’s so cool more boy dolls are being released! I wish I could see a picture of them! So excited!
ReplyDeleteI wish that these TM's aren't being discontinued. I don't know if adding American boy is going to help the company. Should we anticipate a corporate name change to "American people?" LOL. Madelon
ReplyDeleteLOL
DeleteLol. I like all the excitement. They had to do it Wal-Mart Boys are awesome.
DeleteSince Mattel released their 3rd quarter earnings, I have been reading s couple articles about what may happen. The earnings were very bad considering other companies (JAKKs and Hasbro) are doing well. They suggested that Mattel might be bought out because the stock price is so low, but then said that may not happen because Mattel has too much debt. Their debt has been rising and something about Mattel using their 90 day credit for cash. Another article criticized the new Mattel CEO, whose prior job was at Google, for having a vision of electronics, in stead of the traditional toys, and looking at what is selling it is the traditional toy not the electronics. The article also mentioned that Mattel unlike the other toy companies has inventory spikes, where they over supply stores with inventory. They said it is good for sales in the short term, but in the long term bad. American Girl was the worst performer this quarter, and there was mention of hoping for a turn around. Wonder what happens if Mattel becomes too cash strapped.
DeleteI find it odd that Mattel's leadership has little toy experience. Madelon
DeleteI love this move but I hope they do this in a way that keeps AG exclusively for girls in the sense of girl empowerment. Hope they thought this through in the sense of PR. I can see this getting very political very fast if not done well. They could even have boy scout outfits for the boy dolls to show that girls and boys have there own programs that support personal growth and ideals that are popular with both genders. Again, a team of experts hopefully will help with this change so that it works out well. I always see boy scout uniformso for 18inch boy dolls so I know there is a market for boy dolls as well as boy doll clothing that tends to be more for outdoor activities...fishing, hiking, sports. I would love a suit or nice holiday outfit for a boy doll. So many great possibilities.
DeleteDang it I wanted to have a set of twins and i was considering #54. I guess they'll maybe be at the benefit sale if I have the opportunity to go next year? Guess I'll have to find another doll.
ReplyDeleteBecause of Create Your Own, I expect to see a downsize in Truly Me options, something like 6 boys & maybe just 20 girls instead of the usual 40... Anyone know if Molly will be cubed as Felicity was or if Felicity will ever have new items? I really wish AG would just forget all this contemporary stuff & focus on beforever.
ReplyDeleteDo the new dolls have removable underwear or sewn in?
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy I was able to purchase the revamped #54 with the Ivy eye notches before she was retired. She's a beauty.
ReplyDeleteWe're actually also very excited about the boys being released. We'll have some friends for Logan

Looking forward to boy dolls. I have the boy bitty twin set so it doesn't bother me to have boy dolls at AG. My biggest concern is quality control. The dolls lately have been questionable. I had to return one because the hair was short on one side and long on the other plus the leg was loose and uneven in length. It was really bad! I was actually embarrassed when I exchanged it for clothing instead. I did not want to say that I did not want to take a chance on a poorly put together doll. There were so many people picking up new dolls for what might have been the first time that I did not want to ruin their experience. AG needs to make sure the new boy dolls actually look like they are worth $100+ dollars and not just a TM with a bad hair cut. If the quality improves so will sales. But a poorly produced boy doll is not what customers want with all of the poorly made girl dolls. Customers are getting smarter.
ReplyDeleteWell said!
DeleteI'm disappointed that we aren't seeing any new face molds for the boy dolls. More recycling. Makes me wonder about the state of things as well. And quality control/improvements. The last few things I've purchased have left a bit to be desired, not sure how much more I'll be buying.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping 54 would be around longer than this. :( Although the create your own...
ReplyDeleteI like having more boy doll options. I hope they have better hair styles than Logan's curl.
With regards to Mattel...they continue to underestimate the AG clientele. While we are willing to pay for brand specific, the more we see competitors stepping up their game with quality pieces at a lower price point the more we move our purchasing power to quality to fit our budget and not just any price for the name. So as they continue to raise prices and lower quality, they lose market share, but they still try to flood the market with more and more product. As the quality is not there, the product remains on shelves.
Then there are all the sales. It used to be a sale at AG was unheard of. Now we have sales so we are becoming accustomed to just waiting a bit for a product to go on mark down. And we see how low they could really go in the beginning (you know they are still making profit on the sale prices). Take a page from Trader Joe's and Aldi's page. Give the customer quality and selection at a reasonable price with good, friendly, and professional service and we'd all come running back.

I personally don’t like the face molds that they’re using for the boy dolls because I think it makes their lips look big AND THEIR MOUTHS WILL FOREVER BE CLOSED!!!!!
