Filed for bankruptcy on Monday.
ReplyDeleteIt is the 2nd largest, with Kmart being the largest.
With them having bonds coming due that they can't pay, I wonder what impact that will have on American Girl products being in the stores. Do they have the money to buy inventory? If they are cash strapped, will they discount any of the AG items they do have? I have already bought some WW items through their online site that were discounted, but not discounted through AG.
Speaking of American Girl products in other retail outlets, I find it interesting that those stores are discounting the product, which aren't discounted in the American Girl retail stores, and potentially invites competition with American Girl retail stores. Even though they are or have picked up sales through those stores, they may lose sales in their own stores, which may have an impact on AG paying their own bills. How many times has AG on FB said wait and see about items coming out for Felicity, but nothing yet. The Tenney collection in our Kohl's store has dwindled as well as the Wellie Wisher line. It seems like haven't added to the inventory in a long time. They had 2 Tenney dolls for a long time, and those are now sold, but not restocked. Recently, a Logan showed up on the shelf, and my daughter bought him. They don't have a lot of the accessories, either. WW line is also sparse. they don't have all the dolls in stock and about half are in the old packaging. They have a few of their clothing and accessories. I noticed the same situation at our Target in regards to the WW line. This situation may just be our area, that the stores aren't big enough to stock a lot of product.
You are so right. It is horrible mess to figure out. Our Khols has no A/G presence. One Tenny outfit, lay any where on any day left. And the can't mark it down or clearance it under the agreement, got to buy it on a next visit with Khol cash, which then Lowes price. Lol. My goodness. Khols has apparently got a license agree to make American Girl Pjs in Korea, and sake for much less then ag in a Dollie and Me type of packaging, lol. I ran out to buy a pair, right away, and less than a week later they were $10 off almost at Khols.Lol.....I am speechless. My Daughter has enjoyed 5 of her 7 years with everything A/G that is a fact. But the rest is all interesting. No resale value on high prices toys and new thing coming out now in masses will also be a downfall for people who have fought to stay interested in the brand, what do we do with what we purchased last year to fit anything new in the house?
DeleteSorry, I got a few typed errors in my post. Hope you all can understand me anyway. Happy Tuesday.
DeleteI have also noticed a major dwindle of American Girl items here in Alaskan stores such as Kholes, Toys R Us, Sams, Costco and even Target. Our Target still has the same American Girl Products it has had on its shelves for months now. Though I did notice the WW tent the other day. I wonder if maybe people just dont want to pay retail price at these stores for AG products? I mean $24.00 for a WW at Target does seem a little bit expensive. Not to mention the fact that these stores have lots of other toy products for children to choose from. I still like having the choice to the buy the products at the stores, however I would love an actual American Girl Store in Alaska.
DeleteIt will be interesting to see how this all works out.
DeleteLooks like they have filed. I feel they gave a ton of upfront money to American Girl Brand Doll Company, but it was(not) the not the right deal for them!!!. They needed a deal that could allow them to have sales like Khols, that ( net) in the Customers buying for less price then A/G Store's in varies diffent ways. They also have the worst customer service, I have ever experienced. A worthless call center, that results in nothing. They lost me a long time ago, I was a Loyal Customer, my Daughter clothes use to always come from there, new born to 4 toddler, which means, purchases for other things while there, a brilliant concept.Blown by greed ultimately in my opion. I go there once a year to shop now, because we love the birthday call from Geoferry. It is priceless, I cry to see that look on my daughter's face each year for 7 years with the Birthday call. I hope this does not happens to American Girl, when you hire call centers to blow off your customers, this will be a strong possibility in my opion. Customers matter.
ReplyDeleteMaxine, I too was very surprised that American Girl licensed its Tenney pjs to be featured at Kohl's. I was even more shocked when they went on sale for 20 percent off. Did Kohl's give you a refund for the price difference? Many stores would. Target gives you 14 days for a refund with their own sale prices. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the pjs. It still seems odd that there are 9 different types of AG Tenney pjs sold outside of American Girl store or website. Madelon
DeleteFurther, on sale the pajamas are around $28 for girl and doll pajamas together. These are winter pajamas, too. Isn't it around $64 to get Tenney's pjs for girl and child in the American girl store? Is American Girl competing with Kohl's? Madelon
DeleteYou are right. We have American Girl Store and Khols, there is big difference in price. I never dreamed I would have paid A/G Store prices for pajamas for 5 years l, but I did, and now these at Khols are at a much better price point.Tenny Syire Pjs are more Luxuriously appointed, but Khols will do for most Fans. If anyone could make A/G stuff in the USA that might be a good selling point.
DeleteI have not had time to go by to check on a adjustment. I will try to see tomorrow. It is a big surprise to see thst Khols has purchased that license agreement. Makes you wonder what they got upfront from Toys R Us in cash. Mattel should have helped to bail them out and save them from the shame of bankruptcy.
