Last week or week before, there was news that Gymboree was struggling. For the past week or so I've been getting e-mails that their clothes are marked down to $14.99 and lower. Over the past 3 or more years, I've noticed Gymboree cutting back on the amount of clothes in a collection. I have always liked their clothes, and loved their gymbucks (wish AG had that).
This past Christmas, they had 40% off select items in the store. So I did wonder why AG would release 6 dolls this year. Now they are having 25% off some of the Beforever items. I wonder if there is a financial problem there as well. We still don't have a mini Gabriela, not sure about additional books. Felicity's collection is non existent. Then what are they going to do next year, as far as doll releases, since they have already said Gabriela would still be around in 2018. Although they did say there would still be GOTY. But where do they put all the dolls in the smaller stores? Or will they do a huge Beforever archive, so they can't be accused of just archiving Addy? So many of the Beforever dolls have had their collection shrink.
Thanks for passing that along. I was hoping that one for Gabriela was coming out, and asked on AGFB, AG said that one would come out. I've been trying to wait patiently.
I think Z is available for purchase online (and in stores) starting Thursday April 27th. The 29th being the first Saturday after release and when the stores can expect big crowds for debut parties.
I'm kind of surprised American Girl doesn't look at school calendars to help choose release dates, and plan releases just before breaks - I think more families would flock to the stores during the break to see the new releases. They released Tenney & Logan during a break, but at the tail end, and missed out on customers. Most kids will be off for Spring break all next week, so they've completely missed potential customers available during this break.
Z's big event is on the 29th, but I'm pretty sure that she will actually be made available on the 27th since AG always does releases on Thursdays. If there are other releases in April (which I think there might be), they will be on the 27th as well).
Still upset about Gabby so no Z doll for me. But her book looks great or at least the cover does. Interested in her story so I may buy the book.

I recently saw a leak for a mini Gabi doll. I hope there will not be another group of historical characters archived, but I wouldn't be surprised.

DeleteI did see a mini Gabby online - she looked really pretty!!
DeleteI think Addy and Samantha will go at the same time. They have nothing new, and in the store the display is meager.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I thought she was debuting on the 28th.

ReplyDeleteIn DC, her event is in May. I think it's when they could get the entertainer. Madelon
