*RUMORS* Lots of Rumors - #1

RUMORS are piling in by the bucket full!

LADL has stumbled upon FOUR - count 'em - 1, 2, 3, 4 RUMORS within the AG world. New characters coming in, older characters going out.

GOOD news for GOTY collectors! Rumor has it the next GOTY17 will (FINALLY) be a doll of color.

Recently retired #46 is rumored to being revamped for this release and her name will be Gabby.

BAD news : AG is RUMORED to be retiring GOTY dolls and will cease producing GOTY dolls. AG will venture out with both another historical character and a series of new contemporary character dolls.

Look for the next RUMOR post soon.

  1. Wow AG us doing some risky moves. The bad thing is if its true, its quite a slap in the face for the AA doll lover community. Like here ya go after years of no black goty dolls and that's all you'll ever get have a nice day. :(

    1. I don't consider it a slap in the face. Not everyone loves GOTY. I know I don't. I prefer the historical girls and I'm looking forward to Melody.

  3. Yay! I am excited for another historical character! A while back I had heard somewhere that Kathleen Ernst said she was writing another series for AG but that that was all she could say.

    1. Omg yes I remember that! Maybe another historical? Or the new modern doll?

  4. Wow!!!!!! This is incredible news!!!!! 46 was Our 1st Doll of 50 Purchased in 3 years. Our Family which inclues my Husband too, took 3 hours to decide on Her. This information is a smart move to me. Also, this will restore the value of The Girl of the years Dolls. Good news indeed based on some of their really bad mistakes of putting GOTY Dolls on Sale during their reign.

  5. I never cared for the GOTY dolls. I always felt they took away from the historical line. I do feel bad for those who really enjoyed them, but I always suspected most only bought them because they were collectible, & not because they actually liked them. Anyhow, it is great that one of them will finally be dark!
Hopefully AG is planning to bring Kirsten back, or Felicity, or Molly. Maybe it's time to do BeForever of the year dolls, but that would really get me in trouble with my husband. lol

  6. whoa.. crazy.. I know it takes a lot to design and produce all the new stuff each year for GOTY, but isn't it one of their best selling lines each year?

    1. I heard Grace sold really well, but still "underperformed" for AG, which sounds so crazy! Lea is selling way less than Grace.

    2. Is there a website or place you can go to see how well each American Girl doll sells? I have always been curious about this and would love to know more about it. Thanks!

  7. Geez, about time you post this. This is old news. I should have my own blog.

    1. Well Kansasgrl4life LADL posts RUMORS as quickly as possible along with reviews, in store launches and crafts/DIY. LADL is very busy blog! Good luck and have fun on starting your own blog.

    2. As a new member of the doll blogging community myself, it was eye opening to discover first hand how much time it takes to keep a blog updated with new materials. LADL gets some of the best rumors on the leading edge and I know I come here to get the fun new scoops. Occasionally I find a scoop early myself, but most of the time I do not. So I visit my fellow bloggers for the fun of it all and not to complain :)

    3. LADL is the only blog I browse and I do it every day. In the beginning I found some great ones but sadly the bloggers grew out of dolls or got bored and stopped doing them. I think it is quite hard to update a blog if you have a job and a family. Good luck, Kansasgrl4life, and be as persistent as LADL!

  8. I love me some rumors! I can believe them ending the GOTY line. I don't think Grace sold well last year. Plus, they hurt themselves with all the sales. I have one suggestion for them--enough of the big ticket items only available for a year (I.e. $500 bakery). #46 is cute but I think they need to make her hair more user friendly.
Lindsey was one of my favorite GOTY dolls. She was a regular kid who didn't lead a glamorous life.
Sounds like exciting changes could be coming our way!

    1. I thought the big ticket items were excessive. It was interesting to see how each GOTY was bigger but not necessarily better than the last. I think a more simple collection that grows over the years is what most of us are looking for. Like the BeForever characters, you can get the doll, the books, maybe a few outfits, & have time to save up for the more expensive pieces. That's what I loved about the PC days!

    2. I agree, you couldn't get Grace's bakery 1/2 way through the year...it takes time to save that much cash.

  9. I wish that they would put more effort into accessory sets with quality. They have taken so much away from the historical dolls! Bring back sets like Kit's waffle set, Felicity's chocolate set!!!!!!!! Sharon

    1. I agree. Still hunting on eBay for a rare at least under $70 waffle iron set....

  10. What?!?! Wow! I'm so happy AG will be selling a GOTY of color, but WOW! Getting rid of GOTYs? That's very surprising! The GOTY line really seems to be AG's biggest selling point.
I can't wait for more rumors!

  11. 1. Black GOTY, great, love it. Especially because not so many people buy $46 (brown eyes) as #26 (hazel eyes)
2.RETIRING the GOTY line?!?!! Are they crazy? They better have some darn good over the moon amazing idea if they want to keep making all that profit. (But still, first wellie wishers and now this rumor, WHO is making these decisions?)
    3. I think, sadly, without GOTY AG would have totally been discontinued years ago. The Modern line just makes so many people unhappy with it's limited options and the prices are too high for a majority of the fanbase.

TL;DR Great! Oh, wait, actually, it's terrible, but maybe it's good?

    1. #26=amber eyes and Addy mold; #44=hazel eyes and classic mold. Both have the same wig, along with #46 but unlike #46, #26 and #44 both have medium skin as well.

  12. I for one will miss the Girl of the Year dolls if 2017 is the last doll. Their display takes up a lot of room in the store. Almost $400 for Lea's rain hut, her big ticket item is very expensive. Madelon

  13. Don't forget a new doll of color out this summer in the brforever line her name is melody S.R.

  14. Love the news!!! Thanks for this info.

  15. Wow! This is crazy...first I've heard of it because this is the only outlet I go to for AG news... I certainly don't have the time to sort through websites! Thank You Rhonda!!

  16. Interesting news. I have #46 and I lurve her. I also had the Maryellen sister doll so apparently I have a talent. GOTY sold so well with Kanani and McKenna that they got a bit too big for their britches. Lanie had a discount sale after retirement but after their two big ones, maybe they expected that to be the trend. They DEFINITELY need a medium skin Asian doll in the TrulyMe line. Maybe the GOTY will be replaced with a doll from another country each year as they expand overseas.

  17. This could be a very good move for AG. If they had modern characters instead of just a GOTY, it would give people a chance to buy dolls that have become popular, like a Kanani or Sonali. They could be rereleased like the BeForever dolls. Every generation would have an opportunity to enjoy these dolls. I like it!

  18. I''m not sure how the retirement of GOTYs will affect AG, but I am happy about there being an African American GOTY.
I feel like a better option is to put the focus back on the historicals- that's honestly what made AG popular in the first place. I'd also like to see if they'd have a modern line with stories, similar to GOTY, but without only being available for 1 year. This would allow them to have more diversity, and allow customers more options, and also allow time for girls and families to save up for the doll they want.
    Thanks for the info, Rhonda!

  19. It's great that AG is bringing another doll with color. Can't please everyone though.. AG better have a very good idea for getting rid of GOTY! Please bring bring back better quality accessories! I wish they would bring back the older characters, like Molly or felicity. I feel I shouldnt have to pay a lot of money for plastic, especially for the historical line. I really hope they don't get rid of the older historical characters like Samantha or kit. We already know that Addy is leaving very soon. I'm not sure if that would be a good move for AG. I honestly don't think AGs sales are doing that great. I think they lost a lot of customers when they made some big changes last year... just my option.

    1. Is Addy retiring? Any updates on this? Have also heard that Rebecca might be retiring? We do get attached to our girls.

  20. When they started the GOTY, they actually didn't come out every year, it was every other year. I think that built anticipation - I also liked when they had friends. Not really into big accessory sets. I would also like to see them put out more outfits for the historicals - I have all of Kaya's outfits and it seems like I am always waiting for something new for her. And yes we need a new Asian doll, maybe take the time to add a new Native American doll - maybe one for the Truly Me Line - that way you don't have to get a tribe to sign on (I am Native American and do social work on the res. and the girls so want a doll like them.)
