*REVIEW* GOTY16 Lea Clark

I had a great day at the Boston AG Store!  It was VERY busy!  I think it was much busier than last year at the Grace premiere.  Much busier than the Maryellen premiere as well.  I think they sold many more dolls than they did with Grace.  Lea seems to be a doll that all the little girls want!

Here is Lea with her outfit and wearing her hair braid headband and bracelet from her accessory set.  The regular doll came with the messenger bag and compass necklace.  The necklace is much longer than shown in the photo.  I think they made it that way so it could easily go over her head.  I pulled it up a bit closer to her neck for the photo.

Here are some close ups of the items in the accessory set.

Photo inside passport.

Lea and Rebecca.  I think she looks the most like Rebecca than any of the other dolls that I compared her with.  Maybe this is because they have similar eye colors.

Skin Comparison between Lea and Rebecca.  Rebecca is definitely lighter.

Comparison of Lea and Rebecca’s eyes.  Lea’s eyes are slightly lighter.

Lea and Marisol comparison.  Lea has blonder hair.  Hair is close to the same length.

Lea and Marisol Skin comparison.  About the same.  Not sure if it is my imagination, but Marisol may be a tiny bit darker.

Lea and Julie.  Lea’s hair and skin tone is definitely much darker.

  3. I think Lea is gorgeous, and unique enough to add to my collection without looking like she's a copy of anyone else. She is likely to be a cousin of Grace as I'll have bought them from the same place (that's how I surname my dolls), can't wait. Must add to my wish list Marisol.

    1. We bought Marisol back in Christmas 2005 for my now 18 year old daughter. She has held up incredibly well. My daughter did take exceptional care of her, but I have seen photos of others online that still look good. Her wig is awesome! Still has it's natural wave. We also have all her dance outfits from her collection in her tiny trunk. The collection seems so small compared to what they produce for GOTY's today such as the recent other dancer Isabelle. If you come across a Marisol, I highly recommend getting her! ~ Maria B.

  6. Linda Reynolds, Marisol came out in 2005. We bought her at a garage sale two years ago, that was the first of two that I have seen at garage sales!! So I think she must have been popular when she was girl of the year! Sharon

    1. What at great find Linda! She is a great doll! If I recall, I think she did sell out just before Christmas 2005. I remember thinking that I was lucky to order her at the time for my daughter before she was gone! ~ Maria B.

  7. I'm glad we know when Leas birthday is!!! Also has anyone else had problems with the packaging causing terrible indents in Leas legs and neck? I've seen several people having this problem and having to exchange her. The employees have been very, very generous and helpful with the exchanges so that's good. One Lea almost looked like she had a double chin!!!

    1. Maria S. - We had a difficult time getting Lea out of the box, but she came out o.k. with no dents. We opened it when we went to lunch in the mall after getting her in the store. My friend who was with me said that I should have asked the sales clerk to take her out of the box at the register because they will do that for you apparently. I didn't realize this, but I will do it for future doll purchases because that way I can really the doll over before I leave the store. Glad they were nice with the other customers who had issues! ~ Maria B.

  8. To me, Lea looks like a three way cross between Marisol, Kanani and McKenna. I can see the similarity with Rebecca though.

    1. Rosie - I do agree with you. She has picked up characteristics from several dolls. When we were in the restaurant after visiting the store I took a photo of my friend's daughter's Kanani doll with Lea. The photo is in the earlier post Rhonda did showing photos from the trip to the Boston store. I thought Lea's hair was really long when I first saw photos of her online, but it is amazing how much longer Kanani's hair is when you seem them together in person. However, my friend was looking at Lea out of the corner of her eye in the restaurant and she swore at first glance it was Kanani! They are easy to mix up! LOL! ~ Maria B.

  9. I am so glad that everyone enjoyed the photos and review of Lea! Thank you so much for posting them Rhonda! She really is a beautiful doll! I think the best thing about her is her gorgeous hair. The wig is nice and thick. Great bounce, shine, and curl. It reminds me of Marisol's wig which still looks brand new 10 years after we bought her! I think she will be a popular doll this year. The little girls I saw seemed to be going crazy over her! Looking forward to see how she does over the year and if they release any new items for her. I would love to see the fancy white dress that we saw in previews. Hope it arrives soon! ~ Maria B.

  10. I am honestly so surprised that AG had Lea come with a bag and necklace. I am not complaining or anything, but AG usually includes that type of thing separate from the actual doll and so it becomes apart of an accessory set.

I am so happy that they realized how the bag and necklace that they made in China for a few cents SHOULD come with a doll that consumers payed $120 for.

    1. I was surprised too! The bag is VERY nice and FYI - it nicely fits the passport and photos from the accessory set and the camera. You can even squeeze in the compass necklace if you don't want her to wear it. ~ Maria B.

  11. I really like Lea! I personally see mostly McKenna, Kanani, and Rebecca in her. I love her collection as well, such fun and bright colors! My favorite outfit is the Bahia outfit, with the multicolored tunic. What do you think? Also do you know if the fancy dress that was leaked on Ebay will show up anytime soon, or will it be a middle of the year thing, like Grace's sightseeing outfit? Thanks so much, I love your blog! -Jess & Chloe (http://lunavilledolls.blogspot.com)

    1. I agree. My favorite outfit so far is her meet outfit.
I'm sure the fancy white ruffle dress will make an appearance this summer! Can't wait for that!!!

  12. I like Lea Clark but I'm not getting her. Lea has a lot of problems her head falls off and she has no neck string so that forces you to send her to the doll hospital to get her fixed. Me personally I wish that ag made a real african American doll that is actually black and classified as black. But I'm very excited to see the be forever doll and hopefully ag will make a real black doll next year.
