Happy 100th Birthday Raggedy Ann!

Happy Birthday Raggedy Ann! Celebrations are going on all over the country.

I am a huge fan and grew up with everything Raggedy Ann and Andy.

In fact, I was Raggedy Ann two years in a row and had Halloween slumber parties!

Monkeying around with my cousin!

Goofing off!

Playing a rag doll!

I tell the funny story that in first and second grade I was Raggedy Ann and my husband was Andy the same year!

I had a battery operated tooth brush, an alarm clock, lots of different size rag dolls and this color form set.

Did anyone else love Raggedy Ann growing up?

  1. I had Raggedy Ann. Two of them. One was really big and another smaller one. My cousin had Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy that were about 3 to 4 ft tall.

  3. I remember that I wanted a new girly pink bedroom comforter w/ matching curtins and my parents decorated my bed instead w/ seasonal quilts my grandmother made for me. I was too young to be really picky about it, so my parents picked out a new lamp with a blue toy block and a Raggedy Andy doll sitting on it. The lamp shade was made to look like a red and white striped drum. I was so happy to see a lamp with a doll attached-not the other way around.

  4. I love raggedy Ann! My mom had a really big Raggedy Ann when she was little. I still have my smaller raggedy Ann doll. :)

  5. Oh, cute pictures by the way. Thank you for sharing picts from childhood and your memories of Raggedy Ann. Very nostalgic for those warm childhood memories that make us love our dolls.

  6. i love Raggedy Ann and Andy, but my favorites are the retro ones that you have in your pop up party set. Those were the originals, I did not care for the later versions. I did have one the Raggedy Ann, but I was more into Barbie and Baby dolls when I was young. Love the post and the party pixs, awesome. Diana

  7. I also found out that the original Raggedy Ann dolls were first peddled with a chocolate candy heart put inside the doll. They got too many complaints from parents, so after awhile they removed the policy of the candy heart claus and sold the doll without the chocolate. I also did not know about the other characters and saw that the older dolls are worth a fortune on ebay.

  8. *From Julie's doll mom:*

I had a mini Raggedy Andy doll I got for Christmas when I was 6. I also had the talking alarm clock. I have another clock now, (still talks, but won't stop unless you yank the battery out!), and the stapler from the Executive set.(Janex Toys)

  9. Family friends gave us the Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy story books when we were young girls. Raggedy Ann was the very first Christmas present I had ever asked for. I was so excited when I found her when I unwrapped her that Christmas morning. She sat on my lap at the dinner table, and I promptly dropped red gelatin on her forehead. I felt so badly for poor Raggedy, that I had been so selfish and foolish by not taking better care of her. But she just smiled, happy that she could make that Christmas so very special for me. The following year, Raggedy Andy joined us and I've had them both ever since. My dear parents knew that I loved them so much, that they even gave me a Raggedy Ann and Andy set of twin sheets that my own daughter now enjoys.

We've been planning a special celebration for the Raggedys, but will have to share pictures MUCH later, since there is still so much to be done.

Raggedy Ann will always have a special place in my heart, because she is a quiet reminder of the humility which our great God and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ revealed to us: "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Philippians 2:3-11)

  10. I had a Raggedy Ann and my mother made clothes just for her. It was my first exposure to sewing and realizing not all dolls had to stay in the clothes they came with. At some point, my mom packed up the doll and gave her away. I so miss that doll and her clothes because I played with her so much and loved dressing her up. (I was also Raggedy Ann for Halloween on year and my friend was Andy. We made the wigs out of mop heads).

    1. Oh no! Well I'm sure she found another good home. However she made an important impact on you and you can thank her for your love of dolls.

  11. My mom had Annies made for my sister and I. We loved them so much, she later got Andys too just like in the stories. We loved the movie too (was on YouTube in intervals, not available for purchase - have wine if you try to watch as an adult). I painted my Raggedys portrait in watercolor in college. My mom quickly claimed the painting as hers. I brought it home this week which seems fitting given the anniversary and that she's gone home. Thanks for sharing your memories.

  12. I had a Raggedy Ann book collections that was classic. Not sure but I think it was my mom's. My two cousins (not bother and sister) were Raggedy Ann and Andy for Halloween when they were 2 or 3 years old. My grandma made their outfits and wigs for them. She was good! My third child's step-grandma made her a Raggedy Ann doll. She sits on my Aunt's childhood rooking chair in the living room. I love remembering vintage memories!

  13. My cousin had big raggedy Ann and Andy. I had a mini ann and I think a set of colorforms too. :) I met a descendant of the creator a few years ago - not at all what I expected.
