Where's Willow? Hawaii (Day Four)

Today we drove to Kailua Kona. It was kind of a long day, we got voted in the back seat, but Auntie and Alex pointed out all the bananas and flowers and other beautiful things along the way. I looked out the window. We took Auntie to the doctor, she was fine, and we did a little shopping too.

Auntie explained the whole island is made of lava that erupted millions of years ago, from the bottom of the ocean. Lava is everywhere. The new lava is hot and bright red and burns everything is touches. The black lava makes me think of chocolate fudge!

See the eruption behind me? I could not believe I was really here at Kilauea. The rain stopped long enough for us to jump out of the car and take this picture! It was really windy, about 25 knots, I had to wear my hood to keep my hair out of my eyes. The ocean is so blue, in winter the humpback whales live here. Aloha.

We drove to a beach park and had shave ice. Yum. It was about 80 degrees and it tasted good to me. I had the coconut kind. This is a windy spot near the ocean, I never saw black sand before, it is pretty!

This sign explains the legend of Kauila who protects the Keiki (children) who play on the beach. She lives under the sand. I like her.

Auntie and the girls together at Punaluu Beach Park.

I am having a picnic with friends, Luana and Alex.

Uncle said we needed to stay back from the turtle to protect it. We did! My favorite picture!

These are coffee trees.

Cloud covered Mauna Loa in the distance.

We stopped by to see the family boat! We didn't fall in...
Aloha!
