*Review* Carpatina Boy Doll, Adam

Here's a quick review from Linda Dunbar.

I knew these were slimmer dolls. I bought Adam for the little boy that I babysit for. He loves the girl dolls so I thought he'd like a boy doll.

I love these clothes! Here is a photo from the catalog. It's similar on the Carpatina website. If I had been an adult collector and started with these dolls, I would be happy to collect them. But I started with my daughter with OG and AG.

I bought Adam for $79 on sale and bought the black suit and Oxford shoes.

The jeans have a tiny zipper, and the shirt has button snaps. Such wonderful detail, right down to the dress shoes.

  1. *From Julie's doll mom:*

If any of you are familiar w/ the "Supermarionation" TV show of the late 60s "Stingray" , you may have noticed that the Carpatina boys (or should I say men?) have sculpting very similar to the marionettes used on that show. I wonder if that's a coincidence?

    2. I have all the Anderson "Supermarionation" shows on DVD and I watch them over and over. You're right - there is a resemblance!

  2. I definitely find the sculpt a little too "old man"--next to the American Girl doll, it looks like her father. Maybe it is the scale of the head is a bit too large for the thin body...

    1. Actually, the head isn't too large. The strong angles of the jaw line make it look that way in photos but in real life he looks just fine!

  3. I'm afraid that Adam looks even creepier next to an AG doll than he does on the Carpatina website.

Recently, Carpatina showed a photo on Facebook of a new boy sculpt they are working on. It looks promising.

    2. Hmmm...that one actually has a more child like face. Can't wait to see him finished!

    3. Sorry, but I have to strongly disagree with the description as "creepy". Adam is anything except creepy. Have you ever seen him in person? Frankly, I think the AG dolls look rather insipid. I hope Carpatina keeps him in their line, even after they've introduced the new boy doll.

  4. I was thinking that myself. He looks more like a man and less like a boy.... His clothes look great though!

    1. Correct! If you're looking for a a young/little boy doll, then Adam or Carter will disappoint you. Adam (I've never seen Carter) is a young man doll and is most satisfactory as such. His clothes are fine, too.

  5. I want to know if the young boy you bought Adam for liked him? I think he's great! I've started a blog about him and his friend Angelo (a Sasha doll). It's at aboydolldiary.blogspot.com I hope you'll visit. I will add your blog to the listing on my site and hope you'll return the favour.

    1. I went and read your blog, and it made me revise my opinon of Adam. He looks much nicer by himself or with your Sasha doll than he does standing next to an AG doll. I think that's because he is young man and an AG is a 9 or 10 year old girl. And they're both the same height.

  6. I love the Carpetina boy dolls. But they are very much older brother material. They look much better next to the Carpetina girls. Very handsome.
