*In Store Report* OG 1950s Retro Diner + Pink Car in Stores Now

OG Retro BITE TO EAT DINER $110.
It comes un-assembled with only the booth (two seats) attached. It has two stools, small jukebox on table, a counter with display case, food, and chalkboard menu.

Also there's a pink two-seat car for $90.

Car is $90 and radio works. Trunk turns into jump seat.
These images are from Target store in FL.

I saw this retro miniatures set at the Miniatures Show on Saturday. It seems retro 1950s is EVERYWHERE!

Y'know, when AG finally comes out w/ their 50s stuff, (which will be overpriced), no one is going to want to buy it, b/c OG is releasing all their 50s stuff now, (at reasonable prices). Smart marketing move!

    1. Exactly! Plus, I really like the OG price for quality value.

    2. Yeah, totally overpriced. I bet she'll have a car that's at least $400.

    3. Of course, if the whole thing is plastic, then $110 is way too much too. Sorry, gotta play devil's advocate sometimes. I'm just going to wait until the reviews come in for this. ^^;;

    2. Do you have any suggestions on where to find the diner? Really would like one as Christmas present but seems to be out of stock at every target around and on line.
I checked ebay but way over priced.

    3. You may check with relatives in other areas to see if they can pick one up for you. I'm sorry I don't have any clear cut answers, this is a very popular item and low stock.

  4. Very cute! I love the car, but probably won't get it. Would take up too much space.

    1. Would you be willing to provide the dimensions for the diner assembled? I was thinking of buying it, but it might be too big for our space. Thank you so much!

  9. I bought it - it's MORE than what you think. The counter and booths are actually attached to the floor (Fuchsia and black check). Also, behind the counter is an exterior diner-decor panel. However, if you attach it, you cannot fold the chalk board down. There is a neon light around the upper level of the counter and the juke box plays a 50's tune - batteries included!
    Dimensions: about 18" x 27".
The diner itself is roomy, though there's no way an 18" doll will be able to sit on the stools.
Two fit comfortably in the booth, though the legs of one have to be on top of the other under the table (which folds down).
There are a LOT of play food pieces - about half are attached to their serve ware/plates; the rest are separate. For example, the hamburger is actually buns, patty, lettuce, and pickles. I really like the little salt & pepper shakers - glittery spices inside; and the parmesan cheese shaker.
The little order pad has tear off sheets (be sure to photocopy a couple so you can print more), but you'll have to cut down your own pencil to take orders. The one included is all plastic.
It's a mix of realistic and clever, to clumpy and could've been better.
I already have plans for add-ons and accessories!
All told though, a LOT of play value and a fun collector item.
NOTE: surprisingly, there was NOT a lot of packaging. It's double boxed and my suggestion is to save the interior box for storage.

  10. Okay - finally found the roadster in Dallas.
2 dolls fit inside - the doors open (turn the handles).
The back does fold down to form a jump seat, but is NOT large enough to accommodate a doll - maybe a pet or luggage.
The hood/bonnet also opens - there's a gray motor inside.
The roof is NOT removable and does NOT open.
The "radio" plays scratchy songs. (Again, batteries included.)
The wheels move for play-driving fun around the house.
It's also on the heavy side - hard plastic versus the softer plastic of the 4 x 4 jeep.
If the kiddos drop it, you could break off one of the side mirrors or damage a light...
I wish it came in Tiffany blue, but otherwise it's cute and fun for kids.
We've already decided to decorate it with vinyl cut outs - the kind used in Pazzles and other electronic cutters. They're easy to apply and will peel right off.
Again, for $89 I can see having more bang for my bucks - a KEY would've been fun. And, maybe a mini MP3 player instead of the "radio". A luggage rack on the roof or a removable roof (convertible) would be nice features.
There's a car wash set listed on the site as being available in stores, but I've never found it.
Oh, NO BOX - just clip off the tags and it's ready for play.

    1. Jenny if you can, we would love to see your dolls in action with the new OG car. Please submit photos :-)

  11. Both the diner and the car are listed on the OG doll site now and apparently the top of the car does come off - I need to figure it out without breaking something.

  12. Where might I find this diner set? It is not listed on the Target website. Jenny where are you finding it now? I called the store in my city and they were clueless about the item as well. Really want this set to add to our collection:)

    1. It is unclear when or if the OG Diner will go online at Target. Unfortunately we are still unable to buy from OG website. These items have trickled into stores starting on the east coast. I wish I knew when they were stocking stores, but certainly they will show prior in time for holidays. Maybe try calling a store on the east coast or in GA or FL to see if they have stock. They may ship it.

  13. Have you, or anyone else, ever done that....called a Target not in your area and had them ship an item? I am curious!

  14. Just a note to let you know that Mastermind Toys in Canada is carrying the diner for $179.99, on website, but not currently available to order. Retro car is also being carried and CAN be ordered right now for $129.99 (http://www.mastermindtoys.com/Our-Generation-Bite-To-Eat-Diner-Set.aspx). Their Our Generation doll collection is pretty extensive, so might be worth checking out if you don't mind paying more (those are Canadian prices, keep in mind).

  15. They are both available at Mastermind in.Canada, and the car is amazing, we are AG fans, but have the car, horse stable and camper from OG. Yhe car pulls the camper.

  16. I just saw the OG diner at Target. The set is attractive and there is a large variety of foods. Buying it would be a good way to save on the costs of furnishings for American Girl dolls, but the set is not to scale. The stools are tiny and the counter top is short. Adult collectors (and there are many of us) might factor in scale.
