*NEWS* AG Announces Mass NOLA Archivals - Good-bye Marie Grace & Cecile

Hot on the heels of mass rumors and speculation the day has finally (inevitably) come.

American Girl NOLA collection to be archived 2014.

I know this is heartbreaking.
I have just received word from a blog reader:

"I wanted to let you know that I have ordered Ruthie, her pajamas, accessories and holiday gown this past Sunday. When I ordered the American Girl customer service rep on the phone told me her pjs were of "very low" quantity. Wanted to pass along the info re quantities to you. I just saw the announcement re  Ruthie, Ivy and the NOLA girls."

  1. I would still like to buy MG's skirt set and the Crinoline and Chemise. Two things i have wanted for a long time-- I hope they don't sell out before i have the chance to buy them. :(

  2. Between my daughter and I we pretty much have everything except the bed. She would like MG's nightgown for her Cecile doll to use as her summer pajamas. I will be ordering them soon. I might wait until the 22nd and c a ll the NY store to order from a personal shopper so I can get the cabana as well. I am still deciding on the bed, but I am leaning towards not getting it since I would rather have Felicity's bed (I am looking on ebay). MG vould share a room with Felicity. We'll see.

I am sad to see Ruthie go. She is very special as she was my first AG doll ever...a gift for my husband for Christmas one year. I was so surprised and excited I burst into tears. (My kids love to watch that video. Probably the best Christmas gift I ever got!)

  4. Scrolling through the comments on the AG fb page today someone mentioned that it is rumored that Cecile will make her own stand alone historical debut. Is this rumor true?

    1. Hi,
But what is a historical debut? I'd just like to know. Thanks!

    2. I'm sorry but I do not understand. I did not see that FB post. She can't debut AGAIN, she is archiving. Please explain.

    3. I tried finding the post again but with over 500 posts and counting on the AG fb page I can't locate it quickly. All it said was that there was rumor that Cecile would "debut" as a stand alone character. This wasn't from AG it was a post by someone that said they heard a rumor that she alone would be reintroduced as a stand alone with MG I suppose. I wasn't sure if this is true or if you had any information on that rumor.

    4. Ok Jessica. Thanks. This is news to me. Maybe it was someone trying to predict a marketing strategy in the future. Truth is this has never been done before BE FOREVER revolving door of dolls, we will have to wait to see what happens.

  5. I saw on FB that AG finally admitted they are letting go of the Best Friends line. Ruthie was our first doll, so it's sad. I was hoping to get some stuff, but unless it goes on sale, I don't think so. It's not a big deal and I doubt it will go on sale, but you never know. My daughter wants Cecile, but I think it will be doubtful. She will most likely be the first to sell out. At least we know now, but it's strange how they are not giving a date, just saying, "when they sell out.". If they even reintroduce either Marie Grace or Cecile again, it won't be for years, I'm sure because they have the new 1950's girl coming and hopefully they may bring back others like Felicity and Kirsten first. (one can hope)

It will be different without Best Friends, I have Ruthie, Molly, and Saige so now I will have all archived/retired dolls!! In your post about Marie Grace and Cecile archiving, it doesn't say they are on the American Girl website?? Does it say it when you look on the American Girl website??
I wonder if the new catalog and releases will come soon!!

    1. The announcement for Marie Grace and Cecile are found on both Facebook and Twitter not the AG website. I have included those announcements in this blog post.

The catalogs have been shipped May 19 and new releases arrive May 22.

  8. I saw the same FB comment about Cecile as a stand alone. She did say things that lead me to believe she was someone "in the know". Maybe, eventually when Addy is let go (sad) in a decade or so they could bring Cecile back! I would love to see her in the spotlight again and next time with the attention to detail she deserves!

    1. I could see introducing Cecile as a stand alone, but since Ivy is going away, I think AG ought to introduce an Asian historical character first. The experience for Chinese and Japanese early immigrants, I'll admit, was far more negative than I think AG would want to portray for children, especially if the target audience has dropped down to as low as six years old. But if they can portray Addy escaping from slavery, surely in the later decades of the 1800s and early 1900s there must be a mostly positive story or two of Asian immigrants?
