I received a PM, (but it is now circulating on social media) - RUMOR is that Samantha will be getting a Beforever $200+ gazebo!
*Note this is NOT the gazebo!
I'm sure it will be spectacular, decked out in Victorian gingerbread and HEAVY! AG is sure producing massive high ticket items! What's next? A doll house??
We will have to wait and see when the spring releases debut to see if this rumor is true.
Ugh. Another expensive AG item. :L If I recall, there wasn't even a gazebo in her books. :(
ReplyDeleteI sure hope there is a cute Samantha outfit to go with this set, though. Hopefully not a pink outfit. :)

There is no Gazebo in her books, and who needs a doll sized Gazebo? At least it's not $500. Hopefully, that is. I'm almost thinking that taking the illustrations out of the books was just an excuse to make a ton of these big & expensive items
ReplyDeleteright?
DeleteI wonder if they will do some new foldable backgrounds like the winter scene. I got that one on clearance, and I love it. To me, portable pieces like that are more practicle than huge, expensive pieces nobody has room for.
ReplyDeleteI think ur right. The older books give readers a chance to see the old AG aka PC pictures therefore wanting the older PC items hence ebay getting the money. When I contacted AG asking if they could bring back older items, the response was curt and sweet but it revealed that AG does not want to be known as PC in anyway anymore. Even in the first Samantha book, the older books show Samantha's new coat in Samantha Surprise, but that was as far as the company is willing to go. Im not quite sure what to think with the gazebo. Why can't they just bring back the scenes and settings books. Uggg so frustrating for people who grew up loving the company, but not the pricing.
ReplyDeleteSeriously ?!?! Sam already has one big item, she surely doesn't need another one ! If they're going to make something big, give it to Kit or Addy, or someone who doesn't already have a very large (and very expensive) accessory/furniture piece! Anyway, I think AG have made quite a few large, expensive items recently; how about some good quality, historically accurate, low-priced outfits or accessories for a change !?
ReplyDeleteH.M.
Agree with you 100%. Samantha seems to be the center of attention for the Historicals,
Deleteand the others should get furniture pieces too. We all want low priced outfits, but Mattel is so greedy and always want to steal $30 from little girls. AG can be super annoying.
kit has a tree house
Deletebut i agree
Mattel creating something that doesn't match the existing stories? Never! ;)
ReplyDeleteI really don't like these huge items... I thought they were going to explore more what they did with Isabelle collection offering the separated pieces… to make one full outfit we had to spend even more, but that gives us the chance to choose exactly what we want... they should do that with accessories and furniture... instead of making that huge bakery they could have created a stove, a refrigerator, a display, and tons of different smaller sets.... it would probably be more expensive to buy everything but I bet a lot more people would buy...

ReplyDeleteMattel's AG will never be the company Pleasant Company was. Mattel wants MONEY plain and simple. They may claim to stand for the spirit of girls, and even though that might be true up to a point, they are more concerned w/ the almighty dollar. And as long as people continue to buy these high priced items, they will continue to make them. The only thing that would make AG sit up and take notice of what consumers want is a worldwide boycott, (and we know that's not about to happen). But we know that other companies like OG, Journey Girls, My Life As, and online doll stores and Etsy are giving AG a run for it's money. I'm willing to bet that's why so much of their merchandise (even some new stuff and high priced stuff), went on sale last year.
Also, the entire Beforever line seems to be focusing on more and more recent eras. There are only three characters left before 1900 (two once Addy retires) and they're talking about releasing more twentieth century characters too. I wonder how long it will take for AG to go completely modern...?
DeleteIf AG does go completely modern, they are going to lose a LOT of money FAST to companies like Our Generation and all the ones you mentioned. A brand new OG doll costs about $30, Journey Girls used to cost $40 but have since had prices lowered, and the accessories are also much cheaper than AG. The one thing (besides price) setting AG apart from these brands is the historical line. If that disappears, customers will have no reason to buy an expensive AG item if they can buy the same thing from another company for a lot less.
So if you're reading this, American Girl, PAY MORE ATTENTION to your historical line. Stop trying to "modernize" it with more bright colors. It may just save your business.

Well....I cant wait! I want it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know AG was going to make a gazebo for Sam. I just am trying to imagine how spectacular it's going to be. Looks like of all the historicals, Samantha's collection will always be one of the most spectacular AG collections.
ReplyDeleteGuys, as you know the Economy is bad, and so is inflation, you must remember that AG is a COMPANY and companies can't survive without money. But i think the gazebo if it is a true rumor, should've gone to addys collection, as it would go beautifully with her time period. Now AG's prices are skyrocketing, but does that mean that AG is purposefully doing that? no its inflation thats causing the sudden price increases. i even emailed AG about the prices. But they may learn a lesson, if they increase prices, people will stop buying, but if they lower prices, people will start buying. Now am i against huge items? no of course not, but they need a little balance between outfits, accessories, and furniture. Especially Since Samantha has returned, it makes since that shes the spotlight of AG's attention right now. Anyone agree?
