That is extremely interesting! I never would have thought actual boots from that time would be in those colors! Guess they did actually research things before they designed these outfits!

ReplyDeleteThe dress and boots (especially the metallic sheen) are not to my personal taste but I figured there must have been similar boots at the time somewhere out there so thanks for linking to it. AG would not have spent all the money on the relaunch without having the historical stuff nailed down. Same for Kit's dress--I am sure somewhere they have a picture of a girl from Kit's era wearing something similar (if in a different color).

ReplyDeleteWell yes, while the style is historically accurate, the color though. When did you see metalic purple in 1904? In fact I think metallic purple is very much a modern color. So yeah, the style is right color,not so much.
ReplyDeleteI heard quite a few reports that even in customer photos, the shoes still shine too much, and that it's actually in person that they appear to be more of a matte, pearlized leather look, and actually kind of a lilac hue. I feel like lilac wouldn't be too far off since muted pastels seemed to be popular for Victorian/Edwardian clothing.
DeleteI think they're okay. I'd like them even more if they came with a tiny doll-sized metal buttonhook. I was already one delighted girl when they pretty much made an exact replica of the curling iron in Welcome to Samantha's World for Rebecca; now if they would just also make a buttonhook, even if it's for pretend!
Yeah, online does look very different from in person. I think that the boots would look great on the modern dolls. In fact, I hope someone put's Samantha's outfits on modern dolls. If AG intended for Samantha to look quite a bit modern, the outfits should not look out of place on the modern doll. Unfortunately, I'm not getting any of Samantha;s outfits so I hope someone else takes my idea. I also am just now realizing how much the frilly frock looks like the pretty pink outfit for the MAG dolls.
DeleteRegardless of whether or not these boots fit the era, they do NOT fit the character or the story. Grandmary would never let Samantha where something like that. I feel much better about Sam's entire new collection if I imagine it as her clothing AFTER she moved in with liberated Cornelia. That said, I will forgive AG for these boots if they will make them in my size.

DeleteWell, I knew the style existed.... And the sheen lends to SAMs shoes being metallic...but still not a fan of the metallic pink. Why not metallic ivory cream? Or black? I know they're trying to appeal to the young ins, but why not satin pink like the dress? And then make the dress white with contrasting embellishments?

ReplyDeleteOK. I'm with you. I remove my objection, now that I have seen the historical evidence. Honestly, I think I have to see this whole thing with my own eyes at AGP to decide whether I want it or not … some things are more impressive in person (and vice versa).

ReplyDeleteHow high in society was Grandmary? If she was an American version of Downton Abbey (like the Duponts in Delaware) then it would be quite probable for Samantha to have a pair.
