I originally bought 2 coloring books from Dollar Tree for the newsprint paper, before settling on the plaster cloth instead (fewer coats is what I wanted). I had an unused lazy susan I used for rotation. Good luck on your chair! I think it's rewarding when we can customize a doll project. I've just been too busy to get to it! For my base, I was gonna use a weighted paper bowl and a super large paper fastener so the chair could actually turn. Yours came out "Super Groovy!" as my Julie would say.
