*On Location* Indian Tribes - Washington State

We live in SE Washington. There is a lot of Indian history here and around us, some related to Kaya and some not. Last year we started going to some of the sights, and there are some that I still want to get to, hopefully by the end of the fall.

This is a link that shows the tribes in Washington state. In our area, we have Nez Perce, Palouse, Cayuse and Umatilla. There is also Sacagawea.

Some places, and rivers or other things are named after the tribes. There is a city/town called Wenatchee, Yakima River, Palouse Falls. Columbia River, Spokane, and etc.

Our first stop is on the Snake River, above the Ice Harbor Dam.  On the hillside above the dam is a rock, with petroglyphs.  We aren’t allowed to take pictures of the dam, but this link provides a history of the dam as well as photos and other information.

  1. Renee, Thank you for sharing this with us. It is very important to remember the tribes as they were then and are now.
