  1. I'm really happy with AG that they released Tenney and Logan and Felicity early to military families. That was a nice thing to do.

So relieved that neither doll has permanent underwear.

We are very excited about Logan! He looks just like my brother, happy dancing! He'll be joining our doll family!

I really like Tenney's eyes. It's so nice to see more variations in brown eyes. I hope they use these eyes again and continue to introduce more brown variants.

  2. I'm so miffed over this underwear business... I don't think Tenney is a pretty doll at all. Felicity will have nothing but books, undergarments, accessories, & her meet dress which I highly doubt they will sell separately. Soon as I can get Melody with removable undies, I think that's it for me. For the first time since 1993, I have nothing to look forward to from American Girl.

  3. I have to agree with Rebecca. I'm so upset by this underwear business and its implications (i.e., the reason for it, the message it sends to young girls, and the bad precedent it sets) that suddenly I don't feel the same about my beloved dolls that I did just two days ago. That is the saddest thing of all -- to start to lose even a little of the love that I have for them. My Pleasant Company Josefina, that I paid for partly with a little of the money my late mother left me, so I have a feeling that is partly from her. My Samantha, that I've waited for all my life, finally a doll that has dark brown hair and brown eyes like me, that I partly paid for with Christmas money from my Dad. And my newest acquisition, Mary Ellen, a Christmas gift from my husband. I am in my fifties and I find these dolls a comfort. It may sound silly, but in some ways they help me miss my late sister, who also loved dolls, just a little bit less. I know I am not alone in feeling the way I do as an adult collector about my dolls. That American Girl has done this thing, and taking this from us, well, I just don't have the words for it. I was about to finally take my first-ever trip to an AG store, having had to wait a long time for things to get better enough for us that we could manage it. Now, I don't know if I am ever going to make that long-awaited trip. I don't feel like I want to give them any money or support now. Two weeks ago I finally got the Spring Breeze Outfit I've been wanting for a year, and I was so happy to have it and it looks so beautiful on Samantha. Now I get a different feeling when I look at it. This is very sad.

I know this post got a bit longer than I had intended. But I want to thank you ladies for allowing me to share this with you. I know that this is a place where people will understand. You have a wonderful blog here and it's so great to be able to come here and hear from such nice, like-minded folks.

    1. I understand completely. The new CEO of Mattel starts tomorrow and I am going to give it some time to see if she has a different approach. I am trying not to let decisions of others (AG)which I don't agree with now influence the reason I came to this company in the first place (if I can). Hopefully, the memories built with the dolls this family already owns won't be altered by decisions of AG I don't understand. I can see that each of your dolls is special. Maybe once this underwear debacle calms down you will feel better. I hope so. You received each doll with love and that loving intention can never be taken from you -no matter what silly things are happening now. I wish you all the best. Madelon

    2. Agree. They took our Money became more rich, and now just don't care. It shows it every way. And the rewards program has become a joke. Get more money and give them a Cook Book for Christmas. I guess before long they will be back on Jills Deals and Steals giving away Bundles. Like they did for Isabelle, 78 for a Bundle, when Loyal fans paid 120 for the Doll and few months before. Like we are Stupid.

    3. So funny about the cookbook. I have yet to use it. I am still waiting for my rewards coupon from the purchase of the city carriage which they forgot to add to rewards in December for January coupon. They apologized and said it is coming. Still waiting. That purchase alone equalled mega points and they forgot to add it...hmmmm. I had to call twice to ask why it was not added to rewards and each time apologies, yet no coupon yet.

    4. Madelon, thank you so much for your very lovely reply. I was just about in (good) tears, so kind and helpful were your sentiments. You are absolutely right -- my dolls are a tangible, huggable reminder of the love of the most special people of my lifetime, and I must not let this business stain or diminish that for me. Thank you so much for helping me to see that. You will never know just what your kindness and your well-chosen words have done for me.

      Blessings to you! :)

  4. The exchange wasn't suppose to release Logan or Tenney until 2/16. Not cool!

  5. I wanted to buy and love Tenney SO MUCH but I really just can't stand her face paint.

She looks so ugly. I had the same problem with Grace, (who I actually don't think looks bad compared to Tenney) but was hoping maybe on the classic mold I would like it.

But no, Tenney and her collection will not be coming home.

  6. I like that she looks like Caroline. The face paint is very bold which many young girls prefer the darker face paint. I would like to see what outfits they will have for Logan moving forward. THANK YOU. The dolls look great. It is now very obvious that Tenney was meant to be the GOTY 2017 doll. Gabby will have to wait for new items a little while longer I suppose.

  7. I am not a fan of Tenney's darker face paint--the one thing that was special about American Girl dolls was that they were *girls*, not Bratz, not Barbie, and were into sports and art and fashion and makeup were not important to their personalities. Grace was a sad departure but at least it was subtle. Tenney's makeup isn't subtle. Not a fan. Her hair just looks like a fully blond Lea wig. The freckle pattern is unique and interesting--I wish they had done something like that to separate Gabriela from #46.

Is the boy's face mold straight up Kaya-face or has it been modified some or is it totally different?

I don't know that I'll be buying either, I might be becoming un-obssessed. Focusing on historical dolls and maybe getting retired outfits that I missed might be where my interest goes.

  8. I REALLY don't like the sewn on underwear, the new packaging, or the zip tie neck. I'm not sure why AG feels it has to change things that have been working and have set them apart from "cheap" dolls. I am delighted that they are finally making a boy doll, but I really wish they would have come up with a unique mold for their first boy. Kaya is my least favorite mold. I have 40 dolls and hundreds of outfits and couldn't wait for a boy. I wish he was cuter and more playful looking. I would never buy the Wellie Wishers. They look cute in the package, but, once you take them out, they are the hard, cheap plastic. The packaging on the clothes is horrible! Even Walmart does a better job with their packaging. I still love my AG dolls and really enjoy playing with my granddaughters with them. I'm just hoping they don't make any more "improvements" on them. I love them the way they were. I would also love to see them made in the USA. After all, they should be able to find a manufacturer in the US capable of producing a doll for a price that would still leave a huge profit for AG. American Girls should be made in America - really!

  9. I agree with most of the comments! I am
A new collector in my 40's and my under age 10 family collects them, too! We only collect historical dolls and few GOTY, furniture, and accessories. We like the strings vrs. the garbage bag tie, the innocent quality of the dolls, one daughter in first grade absolutely despises Barbie dolls and all her friends have followed suite! I also think we stopped with melody! Gabriela is horrible and junky quality. We felt the same with Leah, not her story but her clothing and acessories so disappointing after Graces! We loved Leah's story though. Gabriela's line seems so cheap to us. It's a shame she's the first Black GOTY. Now Tenney seems cheap, too. I adore her freckles but what is with the heavy makeup?!!!!! It's just terrible. She's like Dolly Parton (who I love) meets Taylor Swift. I'm happy about the boy but I'd rather see a historical character. I am not thrilled with a drummer. It's so Barbie bubblegum!!!!!

  11. Isnt the boy dolls face mold kayas? I only like felicity lets b honest.

  12. I just made a comparison, and no, Logan and Kaya have a different molded face. Logan's mouth is different, even though they are both closed and his chin is pointer. Kaya has a rounder face.
