AG Birthday Rewards

I’m a bit disappointed with how AG chose to promote the birthday portion of the rewards program.  The promos on the website and in the e-mail said ‘Birthday Gift’ which I interpreted as a gift. I didn’t think anything more than maybe a card with a small token item, a doll t-shirt or $5 gift card. The $5 gift card would surely generate a sale.

My daughters birthday fell on 7/12. I had already put both girls birthday dates in my account. I didn’t say anything to the girls about the ‘Birthday Gift' since I had no idea what it was. Then I thought I should send an e-mail and find out when the birthday gift would start, since I didn’t want one girl getting something and the other nothing.

When I went back and looked at the ‘Terms and Conditions’, I realized my error, the ‘Birthday Gift’ is indeed 'an e-mail revealing their child’s birthday gift'.  If in the terms you know that it is an e-mail, then why not put that in the promos? Why give a false impression of a physical gift, why not just call it what it is, an e-mail. Even the statement in the e-mail is an assumption made in the picture is that the child is getting gifts. I am so glad that I didn’t say anything.  It's nice that they are doing this, but I just felt that they are very deceptive on the wording.

I’m sharing the information with you. My intent isn’t to ruin any surprise for other kids. Hopefully other parents won’t make the same assumption I made based on the wording in the promos.

  1. That is disappointing. I made a purchase of $130 and it shows that I have no AG Rewards points. Madelon

    1. I received an email saying I'd get 25 points for completing my profile & I'm still standing at 0

    2. I had my profile already complete, when the e-mail came out.

    3. Call and ask for a Manger to help you. They can add the points and have the Problem coreected within 24 hours.

  2. I think we all agree with you and I wanted to say it and not just think it with you. A Doll Shirt would have meant so much with a 5.00 gift card. It would have generated a sale for them. The people who run the company really need the outside help of some consultants. This gift is not even set up right, send it in a way that allows us to send it to our daughters that fors not disclose how many points we have and our Account number for the points, to combine that is thoughtless.

  3. Well said. I couldn't agree more. What a disappointment.

  4. Yep disappointing! I was expecting $5 off like Build a Bear does every year. The AG birthday "gift" for my daughter was over a month late, & kind of silly considering kids don't even have email addresses.

  6. Could not agree with you more. They stand to get a lot of new business from this if prevented in a effective manner. Toys R Us has a good one that only gives you 3.00 off but when you come in they give you a crown and make you feel like a VIP. Nothing like Geoffrey calling!!!!!

    1. You made several good points, Maxine. Surely someone in the upper management shops, and is in a rewards program. Hallmark even sends me a card with a coupon, for my birthday. When I read the terms and saw that they identified the gift as an e-mail, and see that they put the graphic of a wrapped present and used the word gift on their internet site and other promo items for the rewards program, they were making a subliminal suggestion. Was that done to intentionally mislead? This gift isn't for an adult, it is for a child. I am waiting to see what they do in the future as far as early access to sales. In the terms they aren't going to provide advanced notice of all sales, so they have an excuse already set up. This last sale, I just happened to look at the website and saw the sale. I saw it announced on FaceBook, before I even got an e-mail. If I make it to Berry level and the VIP is an e-mail.... I guess I'll just laugh. So far the special perks to this reward program have been nothing special. Does anyone in this company understand the choices we make with our hard earned money to buy a doll and other products from them? Where is the gratitude and /or appreciation for being a loyal customer? So are they clueless about their sales dropping??

    2. Sales would go up if this is handled with care. Coupons and any efforts to provide us with a advantage for being a loyal customer is greatly appreciated and the response is always more business for them.

  7. So what is the birthday gift? Is it a coupon?

  8. No coupon. Just a happy Birthday Video. It is cute. But a coupon would be preferable.

  9. This is really disappointing! You should keep trying to get those points though! I have over 1,000 now and it gives me 60 dollars to spend!
