*RUMOR* Next BeForever Doll to Retire

The RUMORED next doll to archive is....drum roll please.....

Michelle says Canadian Store Chapters is selling Addy $95 CAD on clearance, making room for Melody. Rumor is there will be no more orders or stock of Addy dolls once sold. Not sure if USA stores will follow.

Also speculation is that Felicity Merriman is next in line to make a possible return.

  1. I would hate it if Addy retired. I was told that her DC display would be moving across the cash registers and Melody would go where Addy was. That doesn't mean she won't retire shortly after that though. Madelon

  2. Addy always had some of the best clothes but the accessory/furniture collection for her has definitely been lacking lately.

  3. Felicity!!? Wow, mind blown. This gives me hope that Kirsten will come back eventually, though probably still 4 or more years down the road.

    1. So totally pumped if Felicity comes back!!! Definitely buy!!!

It would help AG look good since it brings a character from an earlier part of history back into the collection and puts a white character in the earlier eras since naysayers like to point out the DOCs are all in the earlier eras back to back.

  4. Though it will be nice to see Felicity again, I think Kirsten should be next to return since she has been gone longer.

  6. Wow. I heard that Addy was being retired awhile ago, and it's definitely sad. She's one of my favorite characters, but I certainly will be hoping and praying that Felicity comes back since I have Lissie and Elizabeth.

  7. Last week, when I saw Addy on sale for CA$95 at Chapters, along with her school uniform, her accessories, her crinoline... I suspected she would be the next to retire. I was sorry to see this as I think she is a very important character in the AG historical collection. I'm sure AG could "handle" having 2 AA characters at the same time! She and Melody are part of the same story, one at the beginning, one at a later point of an important fight for human rights. There is a lot to learn from those 2... but maybe "learning" isn't that important to AG anymore? Only selling more and more matter?

On the other hand, reading that Felicity could make a come back makes me so happy! I love my Felicity, she was my first AG doll and still is my favorite. I'd love to have new things to add to her collection!

    1. Unfortunately a lot of American Girl's AA customers have been complaining about Addy and may have driven them to retire her cause they don't want to buy any of her stuff anymore.

  8. I would literally start crying if Felicity came back. She is the doll that looks like me and has the same birthday as me. Although I basically have all of her outfits, I would really be interested in some new furniture for her. I dont have any of her furniture and would really like to build her a room onto my dollhouse.

    2. I highly doubt she will be retired because the Jewish people would not like and call them racist since Rebecca's Jewish

    3. NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Rebecca is basically a clone of me! She has my hair and eyes…And I love her story.

  12. Didn't AG say they only wanted 8 Be Forever displayed in the store? So is Samantha going back into the archives? There was the report of the gazebo and ice cream shop disappearing off the website. They have had some of her outfits on sale. Or.... keep Samantha and archive Rebecca. I was thinking for sure Rebecca was next to archive, like Addy she doesn't have very much in her collection. Some great things coming.

I did see an outfit on e-bay, which was a royal blue dress with a black waist coat. The coat reminded me of the colonial period. I didn't know if it was an older outfit, but the colors didn't seem like it was something Felicity would wear, more Kirsten. In addition, the jacket didn't seem like it would be something Kirsten would wear.

    1. Love to see Felicity come back and replace Samantha. We have both Samantha's and feel blessed. We would love to have a Beforever Felicity.

    2. I believe Samantha will go also. Felicity will come to replace Samantha and if rumors are correct, Felicity will be here for 3 years then we will see Molly or Kirsten come back...for 3 years. I dont understand the Rebecca haters. I LOVE Rebecca and she was only just released in 2009. She sells well and the only reason she doesnt do better is because there is very little in her collection. LONG LIVE REBECCA

  13. I feel as though I need to keep reminding people that if any doll comes back, she will be altered. I remember multiple complaints from Samantha's return saying that she didn't look anything like the original. Honestly, I think we should just focus on creating new characters so we (the company) can move forward.

When Addy retires, I will not be surprised. (the only thing that will surprise me is if they don't give a clear notice of her retirement.) She is one of the remaining pleasant company dolls, and I guess that she just, logically, will be retired. The only thing I'm waiting for now is how much of an (internet) outrage will come as of this.

    1. My thoughts exactly. Especially the internet outrage. :/

    2. I think thats why they are trying to not make a huge scene about her retirement.

  14. I think outrage may come because people just love Addy! Oprah told millions of people that she was and is her favorite American Girl doll...and that was Oprah! I think when people love the idea of something it is hard to let go. Addy had a cherry pie for goodness sakes in her collection, who doesn't like that. It was and is a cute collection and reminds me of my grandmother and everything warm and comforting...like a doll's collection should be. People will miss that and therefore miss Addy.

  15. I will be heartbroken if Addy is retired! I recently got her (she's been my dream doll for a long time) and I absolutely adore her and her collection! Her story seriously is SUCH an important time in history, and I do feel that AG is not representing DoC well at all... If Addy retires, there will only be 1 1800's doll and 1 1700's doll... Though on the upside, Felicity is my first and absolute favourite doll, and I will be SO happy if she comes back! I just wish that Addy wouldn't have to be retired to make room for her... :-(

  16. Its likely Addy will retire, especially adding Melody to the mix. Addy was one of the three dolls who didn't get a new item added to the collection on the website, the other two being Samantha and Kaya. With Samantha just coming back in 2014, We can confidently cross her off the retirement list. Kaya however, has some pretty low sales, but she does have one huge advantage- being the only Native American doll. Addy had some controversy when she was first released as she was a former slave. with another African American doll, American girl will sadly most likely retire her. With this being said, I have her and she's such a cute doll, if you've been struggling with the choice her and another historical, I heavily suggest getting Addy, because you might not get another chance to get her in stores.

    1. Addy has been around for over 30 years.. Im sure she is leaving. I have seen Samantha in Costco so I think she has a short span ahead. I have heard rumors that they will be doing a 3 year swap with older dolls. Samantha was retired and came back. She has been here 3 years ans now I believe she will be leaving to make room for Felicity. If Im correct, Felicity will have a 3 year run and then Molly or Kirsten will come back. This way, Addy may also come back in several years.

  17. I'd rather see Felicity replace Addy. Since there's no new mystery book for Addy it looks like she's leaving. Don't go Samantha.

  18. Personally I think Addy is going to be retired because in the winter catalog she had a really small section. Plus Kaya's section was a little smaller then the other charaters. Felicity will probably replace either Kaya or Addy. Recently Nanea Mitchell was trademarked. Nanea is Hawaiian for fascinating or tranquil. So I think that Nanea will replace whichever doll Felicity doesn't replace.

  19. I think Samantha will be retired. Her collection has dwindled over the last year and nothing new has come out to replace it. She was sold in a Costco holiday bundle this past year (similar to Caroline before her retirement) and, as others have mentioned, has been out of retirement for 3 years. I would not be surprised if the retirement announcement was made simultaneously with the big reveal of who is coming out of retirement (rumors are the official announcement will come in February). I would like to see the collections of Kaya, Addy and Rebecca grow and Felicity come out of retirement with an awesome and historically accurate collection (as much as I love Samantha's collection, how much pastel pink and purple do we really think girls of that era wore?). I'd like to see additional bedroom furniture to go with the awesome bedtime accessories sets, and while we're creating our wishlists, I'd also like a more substantial piece of furniture to store clothes in. One with a handing rod so we can actually use the hangers they sell. A wooden doll trunk of olden days, the AG doll cabinet that was retired a few years ago, a doll armoire... something along those lines. And finally, please ease up on the Truly Me line and put more money into the BeForever lines. I would rather buy a period nightstand or washstand than a popcorn machine for my daughter's doll.

  20. Nope. Addy's collection only has 17 items left. American Girl has unofficially confirmed that Addy is leaving. I asked American Girl to make some new products for Samantha, Kaya, and Rebecca. They said that they'll pass along my suggestions.
