*Reader Photos* Samantha's Original Meet Outift

Thought readers would like to see this. AG Wiki says of Samantha's original outfit: "until around 1998, the only illustration of it was on the cover of Meet Samantha."

BUT I found an illustration in the first version of  Changes for Samantha that shows the sleeve of the dress. Samantha is wearing her Plaid Cape in this picture, but you can see the cuff and a bit of the sleeve as she is lifting one of Nellie's sisters through a basement window at the time.

As I have said in some comments, my doll collection is very "by the books". Literally. So I won't try to make or buy an outfit for a doll unless it is at least mentioned, if not illustrated, in the original books. This find solved my debate over trying to buy or at least replicate this dress (I bought Samantha at a doll show and she came in a green custom dress; it's the one she's wearing in my "Samantha at the Beach" post.)

  1. Rosie, I agree with your thinking. It's hard for me to put Samantha in anything that is not original to her collection, but that is because I am an avid doll collector who happens to be a little rigid in my thinking anyway. Plus, I love everything about Samantha. Thanks for sharing this. I will send in a picture that I think you may find amusing.

  2. Thanks! I can't wait to see it!
About the "by the books" collections, I will tell you that I bought AGAT doll Lydia Peyton because she looked more like the Elizabeth illustrated in Felicity's original books than the Elizabeth doll. She is smaller than Felicity (hence Annabelle's nickname for her: "Bitsy") and has dark hair. She even came with a yellow colonial style dress that looks similar to the one Elizabeth is often illustrated wearing. I am planning to buy AGAT Clementine for a similar reason. She looks like Emily in the first edition Molly books AND like Nellie in the first edition Samantha books. Both are initially described as being small and having very short reddish hair. Clementine even comes in an outfit from Molly's time era!

  3. Update:I found Samantha's meet dress at another doll show. It cost a bit more than normal because it is an original, made in West Germany instead of China.
