*REVIEW* OG Sweet Stuff Ice Cream Truck

Tera has a review of the OG Sweet Stuff Ice Cream Truck.

Some things we do not love about the truck (even though I will post some critical comments, we love the truck and would have purchased it despite the "flaws")...

The back doors on the truck do not open. It is not necessary for them to open and there is still easy access to the interior of the truck. If the back doors did open, they would open to the back of the cabinet and fridge/freezer...so, the open back doors would not provide a lot of additional access.

The wheels do turn, but not as easily as we would want them to. When you flip the top all the way to the ground, it exposes a brick patio. We love this feature BUT the brick patio does not sit entirely flush to the ground. Even though it doesn't sit flush to the ground, dolls can stand on it and not tip over...we just wish it would sit a bit more flush. The service bell that comes with the truck does NOT ring...we are really bummed about that.

Like many OG sets, this set does include many accessories that are included in other sets. I personally do not like that OG does this. However, there are many new items in this set.

Some of the food items seem a bit too small. The snow cones seem especially small.

The truck is called "Sweet Stuff Ice Cream Truck". It's currently $109.99. This is what it comes with:
  • 1 ice cream truck with 3 AA batteries
  • 2 stools
  • 4 pieces of chalk
  • 1 customer bell (it doesn't ring...BUMMER)
  • 1 napkin holder
  • 6 paper bills, 3 coins
  • 2 ice cream holders
  • 1 popsicle holder
  • 3 containers
  • 3 drinking cups
  • 3 ice cream cups with syrup
  • 1 colored sprinkle shaker
  • 4 serving spoons
  • 1 ice cream scooper
  • 1 jar of straws (it doesn't open)
  • 1 tongs
  • 3 flavored syrup bottles
  • 1 chocolate sprinkle shaker
  • 6 snow cones
  • 2 ice cream cones with nuts
  • 3 slushies
  • 3 donut trays
  • 2 swirl popsicles
  • 2 ice cream sandwiches
  • 3 pretzels
  • 6 trays with various kinds of ice cream
  • 6 round popsicles
  • 3 cruller donuts
  • 1 big waffle ice cream cone
  • 1 soft serve ice cream in a cup
  • 3 soft ice cream cones
  • 2 chocolate dipped ice cream cones
  • 2 dipped popsicles with nuts
  • 3 double popsicles
  • 2 clusters of ice cubes
  • 2 milk shakes with whipped cream topping
  • 2 flavored ice cream cones with 2 paper cups
  • 1 large sundae
  • 6 donuts
  • 3 sundaes in a cup
  • 15 popsicles
  • 4 serving trays
  • 2 fridge racks and one deep fryer basket.

The special features...
  1. If you turn the steering wheel to the right or to the left, the truck's signal lights will work.
  2. If you press the wiper button, the wipers really work.
  3. You can press a light button for "cruising in the dark".
  4. If you press the music button, music will play (it can play three songs).
  5. The glove compartment opens.
  6. If you press the brake pedal, the lights will flash.
  7. There is a button at the bottom with three settings: Play/Off/Try Me. Make sure that the button is set to "Play" in order for all of the powered features to work.
  8. The top tips open all the way to the ground exposing a brick patio area and a counter that faces the customers.
  9. The faucet on the sink swivels and you can turn the knob.
  10. You can lift the fry basket out of the fryer.
  11. There is a small fridge and a small freezer although I think they are saying there is a freezer and a cupboard.
  12. There is a cup dispenser that holds three cups.
  13. The driver's seat swivels (it spins all the way around).
  14. The wheels do turn.
  15. There are mirrors on both sides of the truck and they swivel.

What we love about the truck:
  1. We LOVE the color...it's a beautiful aqua/light turquoise.
  2. It has TONS of battery operated features (see above comment regarding features).
  3. A doll can easily sit in the front seat.
  4. Dolls can easily stand inside of the truck and serve customers from windows on either side.
  5. The top folds ALL the way down, exposing a brick patio area and a counter.
  6. There is easy access to the inside of the truck.
  7. Dolls can either stand by the counter to eat or sit on a stool. The stools are a bit more substantial than the diner stools. My daughter thinks that the dolls stay on the stools that come with truck better than the stools that come with the diner.
  8. There are WAY more accessories than they even needed to include with this truck...there are SO many items!
  9. The truck interior can easily accommodate two dolls...one in the driver's seat and one serving customers. You could even squeeze in three dolls if you wanted to.
  10. There's tons of storage in the truck for the food and accessories. This truck has TONS of play value...how could you not want to play with this truck?
  11. We love the clear plastic cone and popsicle holders to keep the treats organized.
  12. My daughter loves the swiveling driver's seat.
  13. We LOVE the outside chalkboard (remember to "season" it before you use it.) I plan to make some signs in Photoshop for the chalkboard.

All in all though, we LOVE the ice cream truck!

  3. Thank you for the review. Good to know all the details.

While it might be an initial bummer that the customer bell does not work...in the long run it might save some parents' sanity. ;-)

    1. I agree with both of you. You can always substitute it with Maryellen's diner bell if you or your loved one has to have a working bell. The diner hat and apron might work well too for the outfit for the truck driver, or the DIY editions.

  9. I agree with Tina and Linda, this was an awesome review and love all the details. Thank you for a great job well done. I think this will even go well with Samantha's collection paired with the gazebo during the summer. I won't forget Julie either with all of her vivid, summery outfits. I hope to get her bike so Samantha will have a racing partner. I hope to be able to finish a spring/ summer DIY scene for the backdrop of what I think Tyson's Ice Cream Parlor should look like outdoors. This truck would be the cherry on top. Hope to share by then if it comes out descent.

  10. What a great review! Was so excited to see all the little bits and hear all about the "play" features. Definitely could use a bell! Would love to see a photo of what it looks like when the top is flipped open and that patio/counter is set up. Thanks for the review!

    1. I hadn't heard of it before but I found this site that not only talks about how to do it but why. I don't recall having trouble with my dolls mini chalk boards but around the house I use white boards a lot more often :/
