*In Store Report* OG Price Hike - Mastermind Toys Canada

Robin has an In Store Report for Canadian readers.
I don't know if this is something of interest to you and your readers, but I just noticed that there has been a price hike for the Our Generation toys at Mastermind Toys. Perhaps with Target leaving Canada--the only other Our Generation competitor--Mastermind Toys deemed it a good time to increase the prices. After all, they technically have the monopoly on this doll line in Canada once Target shuts its doors for good.
I was disappointed to see the price increase--especially as they have not just gone up a few cents--but they have skyrocketed by a few dollars, making some of the items a little less affordable then they once were. It was nice to be able to get a doll, extra outfit and shoes for less than $50, but now this is not possible with Our Generation. It doesn't look like any of the OG items are less than $10 now.

Here are a few examples of the price differences:
- Basic dolls have gone from $29.99 to $36.99
- Deluxe dolls from $49.99 to $59.99
- Deluxe doll outfits from $19.99 to $23.99
- Accessory sets and shoes from $9.99 to $12.99 ($13 is a bit too pricey for shoes, I think!)
- 14-inch foals from $27.99 to $34.99
These increases makes the other budget 18-inch My Life As (Walmart brand) line more appealing since both the dolls and the full-size horses are regularly $33. Outfits are $10 and shoes are $3 each.

  1. Honestly, I think that is outragous pricing for an AG alternative. I still like OG, but I don't have very many of their things and probably won't be buying many more if the prices continue to go up. :(

  3. Our Generation has some great items! I would classify them as mid-grade doll accessories in comparison to others. I have some Journey Girls items (clothes and sleepover set) and I would say they are below OG in terms of quality. I think Toys R Us is sooo expensive, unless you find a good deal with coupons. I do like the JG kitchen with sound effects, but it's too much. OG should stay around their price range and not go up much more because they're decent quality but not the best, you know? While I prefer OG over Journey Girls or My Life items I would not spend too much more on some of their items. My one issue with OG is that they have some of the coolest items but are never in stock. And I noticed Target has lumped many outfits/accessories under one sku, so people like me that go online to see if something is in stock, then go through the trouble of hunting it down in person come back empty handed. I wish they'd fix that. Lol! My daughter has the foal set and it's not worth more than $25 in my opinion. Well, those are my thoughts and opinions on OG anyway. :)

  5. Interesting! Went on to Amazon Canada--which is generally waaaaaay overpriced for anything that isn't a book, music or a boardgame, but some of the Our Generation prices are reasonable. Some, are still outrageously priced, but not all. And, the fun part--I spotted some new Our Generation stuff. A fishing outfit (with rod, reel and bucket), a butterfly catcher outfit (with net and jar), a new bathing suit set (with beachball)---pretty certain none of those have appeared on shelves yet. Spring collection sneak peek, perhaps?
